Description
Here is a rough color sketch for a proposed color illustration for the update of The Millennial Project. This shows a manned rocket being launched from near by an artificial island colony as described in the book. The vessel on the right is a tri-maran powered by wingsails(like those seen in the latest Americas Cup races). It is used to ferry the rockets from the sea colony to the launch site.The rockets float upright in the sea and can be launched without the need for gantries or other support-towers.
I chose this near nighttime seen for its dramatic effect...also I wanted an excuse to add some stars: our eventual destination.

Thank you! The sailing ship has undergone a lot of changes since I did this, and I will be adding what is called a FLIP vesselm but the final version should look a lot like this sketch.

It seems like the launching rocket's exhaust and the sails fight for attention.
I even squinted to see who would win.

It ends in a tie...as the rocket ascends the light on the sails dims, eventually leaving them in darkness. However, soon the sun rises and sweeps away the competition.
