That's because the Open Canvas used for this was an older version. I'm pretty sure all the features used in this tutorial are also in 4.5.09 Plus.

Can't help you there then, sadly. I no longer use Open Canvas or have kept up with the new updates. Good luck, though!

Ah, I see. It just takes a little practice. I also have a trick on how I made lines that neat, if you care to know.

Whenever I outline via mouse, I always go back over the lineart to make it thicker and cleaner. For example, I outline a strand of fur and before outlining another, I'll go back over it. This makes it so it's more 'smooth' and cleaner.
Another tip, actually, is to outline your image when it's super big. Later, you can shrink down the image and you'll be surprise how cleaner the outline will look.

What I used to do was once I was done with the picture, I simply screen shot the entire screen with the picture (Print Screen button on your keyboard), placed it in Ms.Paint, and removed the rest of the screen except the picture.
It's good but the only down side is that you'll need to work in one session, meaning, you cannot save your piece to work on later.

This.

It pretty much copies your entire sceen. You can then go on a paint program like Ms. Paint and paste it in there.

The part I don't get (please don't think I'm stupid) is did you color really carefully or is there a way to color your line art without getting out of the lines? And the whole layers messes with my head >.> I mean do you do a new layer for each thing, and then how does it work? Because people keep telling me to do a new layer for the head, body, clothes ect. But how do you use it? Do you only color that part on that layer? I'm sorry that i'm so confused but I'm not really...um. rich. And I just got this program and have no idea how to use it, and the tutorials I find just make me more confused. Thanks

I just got back and saw this new DA, lol.
You can still see the full version by clicking "Download Image" to your right. You won't technically download it, but a pop up will come showing the full version.

people seem to ask the same questions alot (like the version number you used) and I admire your patients. I my self am setting off in the wide world of drawing. I probably have the steady hand down as I paint 40k models.
So you think practice is all thats required to draw smooth lines.... sigh. This may take a while. thanks for the tutorial. I got open canvas and am practicing as we speak.
Again, thank you. bye.

Thanks alot for the comment!
Yeah, it usually takes practice, but dont worry, you'll get it. If you ever need help, shoot me another comment or note.
I did a lines with a mouse then, but it may be easier for you if you invest in a tablet. I am using one now, and it really helps me.

This is really cool. I have Photoshop but it's gonna get erased soon and I have seen many pictures done in Open Canvas and they seem...cleaner and smoother. Is it true or is it just me? XD But I'm thinking of getting it since Photoshop is like $200-$700

i like the tutorial and i have a question, i teake a magic wand in my draw andd when i do click in my draw, the selecction is ni all canvas, how can i do for select only any area
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
koisnake In reply to xfritsx [2008-11-15 23:11:43 +0000 UTC]
Glad you like it!
There may be several reasons why this happens
1.) Are you using layers? If so, make sure you use the magic wand on the outline layer, then switch back to another layer to color it.
2.) Are there openings in the outline? Make sure all the lines meet up and close.
Hope this helps!

so y do u multiply a layer, y not jus color it all on 1 layer?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
koisnake In reply to wolfboy11 [2008-09-09 00:17:31 +0000 UTC]
If you color all in one layer, you can make mistake and you'll have to erase the whole thing or part of it. Putting it in multiple layers (color layer, shadow layer.etc) makes everything organize. If you miss up on shading, all you erase or delete is the shading, not the outline or coloring.
