Description
I thought I'd put together a little tutorial for everyone of my favorite little trick. You can use these same principles to get sketches positioned just right amongst othe things, but this tut shows you how to turn flat textures into perspective walls etc.
Being able to warp textures to fit into a perspective is one of the most poserful things a computer artwork can do, apart from layers and Ctrl-Z.
So if you've ever wondered how to fill an angled skyscraper full of windows, place a picture on a wall or even put up the wallpaper inside.
This shows you how.
Enjoy everyone.
Note: As far as I know only Photoshop has the distort tool, other programs may have it under different names.

lol yeah.. i did that with my golden sun picture. It was a pain cause I had to make separate tiles for the closest ones. Wouldn't look right if I didn't. the wall was another story lol... I still don't like it cause of how much the tiles stretch but I couldn't get it to stack up right. That was the first time I ever used that tech. kinda was like... "Ooohhh I wonder what this button do.....!" That's nice you did this tutorial for others. :3 I think I'm going to be using it for my thesis lol... Anyway for those wondering what pic I'm talking about here [link]

I find if you make the textures quite large, about 140% larger than your picture itself, distort to the righ angle and eraise what you don't need the effect if more realistic.
*Looks at picture*
Ahh I see what you mean.
For this I find actually "lowering" your perspective so the roof seems lower actualyl helps. A little hard to explain via text or image though sorry

Nice. And gives a 3-d look, to boot. Come to think of it, that's really all "3-d" is, jsut transforming the shapes... hmm...

A really small but interesting step that can be added is the use of the displacement filter, as it'll no longer make the noise flatly linear specks.
Useful to add depth to soft sand (as opposed to hard sandstone). In some cases displacement doesn't add much of a difference, but its a nifty tool nevertheless
Maybe I'll make a lil tutorial on displacement maps - would compliment the skills in this tute well.
Great tutorial bud

Go for it.
Ever used them to do the folds of cloth and gowns. For instance the flowers of a kimono can be done quite well with Disp maps

Hey, thats REALLY nifty! Alot easier way than me going into Cinema4D, making objects, applying/MAKING textures, adding lighting then, rendering it. XD
