Thanks for this... My scanned images still look about 200 times better in real life, though. But this helps a bit.

That's how it is for most of us, sadly enough :/ There's only so much you can do to save them, but it's easier when you know the right tricks! So I'm glad if I was able to help

It did! A bit... I tried using your tricks on this , but it didn't work that well on that one. It helped a bit, though. And I also tried to follow your instructions on clothing folds, hair and skin (which is basically all there is in the picture) but it didn't turn out very well.
And there's always those black dots on my scans. I should probably wipe the glass on the scanner pretty much every time I scan something...

I think it's a really good start! Keep trying - as annoying as it is you'll need a lot of practice before you get the hang of it. So don't give up! Just jump straight to the next picture and make it even better!
You should probably try that, yes, and you can always erase them afterwards in Photoshop by carefully painting them over.

But if I paint them over, there will be slightly differently coloured areas... I have tried it, but most of the time it doesn't work out very well.

Try a softer brush? If you have Photoshop you can lower the opacity or flow and be a bit more careful.

Maybe... I'll try that next time when I scan something.

This is excellent. I didn't really think about adjusting my scanner output much nor bothered to repair the scanned image, until I read your tutorial here. Now you've shown how imperative it is, as coloured pencil drawings deserve this amount of care really (since coloured pencils are so challenging to use!)

I didn't at first either until I got a really... well... it's not a bad scanner but one that really slaughtered the images unless I adjusted the output and such and then tweaked it myself.
So I had to learn really, and it looks better this way so I truly recommend trying at least some of the tips
I don't like to meddle too much with the image myself - like real editing - but this tweaking? I think it's only fair, like you say, because coloured pencil drawings really deserve it

OMFG!

Pfffft. They already have. But don't mind if I visit them 100+ times while I draw to get a serious color pencil job done nicely (I haven't in a while... I think the last one was... I don't even remember! D: ).

I'm more of a marker user but it's still really neat to see such an in depth tutorial. I imagine that this will be very helpful to just about anyone.

I can't use markers because they smell too much x'D My nose is too sensitive so if I was around them too much I would probably have a nosebleed or something...
So I stick to coloured pencils
Thank you anyway! That makes me glad to hear ^_^
