I've been meaning to post this for quite a while! As you can probably tell, considering the fursuit pictured is one I finished and shipped three months ago... hehe.

Part one on a series showing how I fur my heads. Hopefully self-explanatory?

Idk if I'll get a reply, but I tried taping my head. There was no major damage, but the tape was too sticky on the first layer, so a bit of foam was ripped. The upper layers of tape began to peel off over time though. Idk if it's my tape or not. Also, how did you cut out the tape? Did you use scissors or a razor blade?

For the first layer of tape, I like to press it onto my clothes first so it's less sticky. Other people create a barrier between the tape and the foam with saran wrap, but I haven't found it neccessary. I advise only keeping the tape on the head for a day, maximum.
I cut the tape off by slipping small, sharp scissors in between the foam and the tape.

I know how to do pretty much everything but, cut off the tape from the fursuit without damaging it.
And putting the fur on.

Try squishing down the foam while gently pulling the tape, it'll pop right off!
As for putting the fur on, read the rest of the tutorial!

Um, so when I took the tape off the entire thing tore into pieces and half of the foam ripped off with the tape. Is that supposed to happen? If so, how do you deal with it?

You can reduce the stickiness of the tape by pressing it against your pants before putting it on the foam. When pulling off the tape/cutting it off, I wriggle the tip of my scissors between the foam and the tape and squish the tape down, helps the tape pop off. Sorry to hear that happened!

why do you put the tape on it?

MischivousRebel In reply to PortysPride [2014-05-18 00:51:15 +0000 UTC]

So when after you put the marking on the tape you'll cut those parts off than like you would do at the beggining you would draw the outline on the foam you draw it on the other side of the fur that is furry and than cut that out... Just go to the second one

How do you cut your patterns off so they don't damage the head? That has puzzled me for so long now

I don't know if you figured this out yet, but you need a Xacto knife or box cutter and cut the pattern. Don't cut too hard into the pattern though.
