Description This is the third in the series of DnD renders for my friends. This character is Kala. She is a monk warrior. I really liked how this one turned out.
Render time was 94 hours.

Pretty fancy looking character and background. The latter is usually where my renders fail.

Backgrounds are always a pain for me. I have found that there only seems to be two ways backgrounds work well. Either they should be kept simple, or go all out. The latter case runs the risk of distracting from the scene and should only be done when atmosphere is needed to support the subject. (The latter also tend to cause problems with memory! )

Oh, complex background are my worst nightmare with Vue5. It comes with EchoSystem, an automated vegetation scatteting system that can suddenly need something like 75GB of RAM... and that usually means: BOOOM!! (lost your work, can't even save)...
And you know what? Most people don't even notice the BG, unless they wanna complain about it.

94 hour render? Good gravy! I'd have had to check my comp's pulse.

All in all worthwhile though. Saw it over at ODDs and had to check it out! Wonderful POV and a great sense of still drama, if that in fact makes sense.

You just earned yourself an ODD! congrats! An ODD (Oibyrds Daily Devs) is a little extra spotlight I shine on deviations that I think are really impressive and/or they're not getting the attention they deserve. Please see the link below for all details and do keep in mind that if you prefer not to be a feature, just shoot me a note and I'll remove you from the list CHEERS!

...92... hours... Ohhh.... my poor hearth, you should put a warning before making such declaration, you know? I don't think i would *never ever* have that amount of patience, not even on a secondary pc! I would end up sending voodoo curses at the pc after ~10 hours at most! LOL!

But as said by many, the result was *so* well worth it! I'm glad i saw this link on another image, as it is truly impressive - POV and DOF are both fantastical, and the crispness of details is awesome - now that's a good looking warrior monk... not that i would get anywhere near her... monks and vampires don't get along very well... LOL!

Wonderful work - excellent character and a nice POV with well selected DOF! Very well done! No doubt about it!

But 94 hours? Come on...! No offense, but there is either something wrong with your rendersettings, your renderengine or your compi. Something like this should not render longer than 1-2 hour for 4000x3000 on something like a 3 GHz/1 Gig Ram... just my 2 cents...

Lokai2000 In reply to Fredy3D [2005-12-10 17:42:02 +0000 UTC]

Povray is an extemely powerful render engine. It's just not... fast. I tend to push ray trace engines to thier limit. The depth-of-field, render size (1440x1920), 94 light sources, and complex multi-layer material definitions pushed the ray tracer over the edge. Someday, Povray may support shadow maps. Until then.....
I really don't mind though. It forces me to pay a great deal of attention to the small test renders prior to kicking off the final one.

I love the point of view and the combination made for the outfit. Has much respect for sitting through 94 hour render time. I would go nuts at 1/2 hour. Three hours max before I say this is too big.

I love the point of view on this, as well as the depth of field! I truly don't understand the 94 hour render time, tho. I'd go stark raving mad if I had to wait that long for something to render, no matter how gorgeous lol. You have the patience of a saint

94hours???!!! You got more patience then I do. In rendertime does that mean when you did the piece or actuall rendering the image?
But no for the pic, I love the perspective! THats one of the things I love with daz/poser that you can get the perspective really wicked without knowing anything about it really
It looks so good, and I love the details, like the rocks lying. Great work!

Lokai2000 In reply to Drakenborg [2005-12-10 02:58:52 +0000 UTC]

Nope, 94 hours is just the render time.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Drakenborg In reply to Lokai2000 [2005-12-10 10:37:11 +0000 UTC]

oh, you need a better comp!
I mean mine take like 2-3 hours to render a 4500x3000 with many details and stuff in it.
BUT the pic you did was worth the time

Lokai2000 In reply to Drakenborg [2005-12-10 17:37:19 +0000 UTC]

I have some AMD 64 class machines. The reason the renders take so long is the use of things like depth of field, caustics, and true reflections. Also, I typically have a hunded or more light sources in a scene as well.

Sleep, mainly.

I have a backup machine I run renders on so I can work on other stuff while these things are running.
