Well, just got done playing the new Portal 2. I must say I was very, very, VERY impressed. I think I'm in love.In any case...I love to build things, especially with my hands. And the new boots caught my attention. I knew I didnt have the resources to make the spring heels (that would hold up 120 pounds and and hurt like a bitch), so I looked around and found the next best thing.
Yes those are real shoes.....Before and after to see if the shoe style would look good with the additions....It does. XD (that and it helps me not be so VERY short).
Might throw this into my 'future cosplay' folder....once I raise enough money for the base shoes.

I must say, the original shoes are pretty hideous, but when converted into the long-fall boots, they're pretty spectacular. Very cool.

That looks awesome. A more combat oriented version of this that are similar to powerbocks would be these braces that are worn on legs and makes it so that instead of the feet touching the ground, the heel spring is the only thing touching the ground. This makes the soldier capable of running across all kinds of terrain and it also ensures that the soldier survives long falls. They are weighted down in a way that ensures you land on our feet even in terminal velocity.

I assume the 'white cover' you're reffering to is the uppermost white layer, that envelopes the shoe and goes up the leg...if not I apologize.
You could use a number of things, depending on your skill level and how durable you want it to be. You could simply use some white vinyl, shape it to your leg, and reinforce it with foam. You also could look into using wonderflex to make a more sturdier structure and paint it/cover it.....and there's everything in between (papermache...styrene etc). I suggest looking up some armor making tutorials, there are some great resources out there. You can find one that uses a material you feel fits your needs best. Just keep in mind that whatever you use you want it to have some structure holding capabilities. You cant just use fabric, it wouldnt be stiff enough in my opinion.

This is seriously an awesome idea... I went and looked up those boot prices, wow!! So expensive! I was considering trying to make a pair by instead getting HUGE platform boots and carving out the back of the heel... not too much of course, so they would still be okay to walk in... Not sure if it would work still but I am going to try it

don't get those booties, the original have no platforms but look more like black toed socks. So get a pair of black ankle length boots (skin tight or close to it) remove the heel (they have special tools to do this) you can cover the now ripped looking heel with white leather or rubber (rubber would work best to give the right texture and malleability) and you may need to make a new sole for the shoe.
All in all, it would make more sense to make the boots from scratch :I one less expensive shoe ruined :I

Of course, but removing a heel from a shoe that was made to have a heel generally wont give it the same effect. The reason I chose these (and other people have suggested different ideas and ways to do it as well) is because the heel will appear suspended in air... removing a heel from a shoe that was made for heels will just make you end up with a flat shoe that walks funny....

not true for stilettos, which was what i meant, seen as they have a sole built for structural support encase the heel snaps. then to add and iron bar (the new "heel") would re-support the heel. It would also work with a heavy stiff kind of wood or carbon fiber/plastic
