Description
Well, just got done playing the new Portal 2. I must say I was very, very, VERY impressed. I think I'm in love.In any case...I love to build things, especially with my hands. And the new boots caught my attention. I knew I didnt have the resources to make the spring heels (that would hold up 120 pounds and and hurt like a bitch), so I looked around and found the next best thing.
Yes those are real shoes.....Before and after to see if the shoe style would look good with the additions....It does. XD (that and it helps me not be so VERY short).
Might throw this into my 'future cosplay' folder....once I raise enough money for the base shoes.

As a guy, I can say I'm disappointed. Cosplay is out for me. And I'm too ugly to do a Crossplay.
However, speaking of, my friends continue to tell me how much I look like Rat man. I guess a scientist of Aperture would surely be made to wear these. Perhaps he even designed them.
As per upgrading, I think if you got some heavy duty plastic, and used that as the back brace, you may have better support. I'm talking the type you find in expensive coat hangers for the Big and Tall suits.
An Idea for the boots, maybe not Lady Gaga boots. Perhaps Kangoo Boots? They are cheaper, and being pvc, easier to paint than most plastics.

Of course! Lots of people have commented with different ideas, this is just one example. You're free to modify it as you'd like. Just please let me see the end result!

Great design! I was thinking of making some of these too, but I'm planning a clear acrylic panel for the heel. This is much more stylish!

Thank you SO much! What would you use for the 'wire' part of it? The part that's supposed to bounce?

LyoNaka In reply to dragondancer123 [2011-06-04 16:43:47 +0000 UTC]
Well....two reasons, support and style.
You really shouldnt use it for bouncing, it'd most likely end in disaster. But on the off chance you'd roll back onto your heels in these shoes you'd need support. So yes and no. Its there for the look, but I would extend the metal up into the ankle and leg section of the boot for support. It'd be terrible if they broke while walking around at a convention. Talk about embarrassing.

Well, I was also asking what they were and maybe how to get them, but this helps too!
I'm just going to walk on my heels the whole time (it's easier than it sounds, I do it all the time) but I'll probably like, screw the wire on a metal bar on the inside.
And no kidding. I could imagine the comments...

Oh, well if I was going to do this design.....are you familiar with the wreath hanger hooks? They come out around christmas times...its like an inch wide metal in different colors that you can hand on your door to put a wreath on....It's about the right size and can be easily bent for authenticity and they're cheap....otherwise some bent wires covered in foam would work, they arent going to help much with support in the leg, but they're easy.

Hey lovely,
Just a heads up that I'm planning on actually making a pair of these for an upcoming con. I hope that's okay with you! I'm using a slightly different pair of base shoes, because I want more ankle support in case I fall off them, and also if I'm going to be spending $100-plus on a pair of shoes, I want them to be something I would wear again, and I'm not sure I'd wear PVC shoes again
Here are the shoes I'm planning on using, [link] I'd love to know what you think!

Yea I have those shoes on my favorites list, the only reason I didnt choose those was because of the laces, didnt want them in the way. But I cant wait to see your take. Please send me finished pics! Good luck.

Oh awesome. I play soccer so I was thinking of making the boots in two parts - the first will slide over the boot like an ankle-guard and I'll pad the front with craft foam so that the laces aren't visible *fingers crossed!!!* I just want to buy a pair of boots that I will actually wear outside cosplay - I try and do that with most of my cosplay shoes so I don't spend fortunes buying shoes I'll only wear once or twice.

These look so cool!
The only problem is that on my tiptoes normally I'm over six feet. The extra, what is that, five inches, would suck. xD

lol, most defiantly. Well if you search through the comments some people have suggested other types of shoes to use with this general pattern.

These are INCREDIBLE. I had considered pony boots as a base before because they're heelless but these look much less terrifying to actually walk in!!!
I'm hopefully cosplaying as GLaDOS at an upcoming con, and my boyfriend is going to be my test subject, so I know he won't wear these, but I'll bear them in mind for the future.
Added to my cosplay inspiration folder 'd
Raimei.

PS... Are these expensive as hell? -dork-

LyoNaka In reply to PixieRisa [2011-05-10 16:37:38 +0000 UTC]
The boots that 'I' used are quite expensive, they run for about $80 depending on where you get them. However there are plenty of other ways to do this, lots of people in the comments have suggested alternatives...Some other 'heel-less' shoes are pony girl shoes (though those are pretty painful), and you can always go for clear plastic heels, its not the most dramatic of effects, but it still works.

Supposedly, that style of boots that was started by Noritaka Tatehana ([link] ) is actually supposed to be more comfortable than normal stilettos!

THANK YOU FOR MAKING THIS!!! im planning on doing a chell cosplay but the long fall boots are a bit of a problem. you could also use clear high heels like this [link] and than put the hole in the spring heels so they stay attached and blend in with the little black thing on the bottom of the heel

Mooncinder In reply to ??? [2011-05-08 23:04:38 +0000 UTC]
Great idea, I'm hoping to do a Chell cosplay soon and I came across these shoes too. They're so expensive though and I'd never be able to walk in them. I'm thinking of getting some kind of perspex or plastic to make my own clear heels. Then I'd just make a boot cover for the rest. Be sure to post pictures if you do end up making these boots and I'll do the same.

I had originally looked into clear heels, but it just didn't have the same dramatic effect I was hoping for. If you look through the comments some other people have suggested different types of boots, maybe that will help.

RA-SE-N [2011-05-08 09:29:04 +0000 UTC]
How the hell were people expected to walk in those WITHOUT the black bar?! Nothing about that suggests that you'd have anything resembling balance wearing those.
Were they really even necessary? The boots in the promo don't even have a heel.

Hahahaha, very very carefully.....its more so about walking on the front part of your foot instead of the heel. It's really not that hard, it just takes some getting used to. I would practice before a convention.
