Description Well, I promised a few people I'd do somethin' like this. I don't actually recommend this way of, uh, doing things, it's just...what I do, which is not necessarily what you should do. See? It's nothing new, either...watercolours aren't as hard to control as most people think! xD

Worry not, not at all

Its enough simple to understand, and what i like most about it?

ITS YOUR OWN.
And it, like other best tutorials, has clearly said all you do. It DOESNT have to explain everything of art in general, but to let others know the little magic around one artist (you) to get inspired themselves.

Infamous P.S.

How do you manege to lighten things if they turn too dark, and why dont the pecil strokes vanish when you use colour? (mine do )

Marshroots In reply to AnuOjat [2008-01-03 23:19:22 +0000 UTC]

Soak it back up with some tissue, or it it's dry, rub it with a wet brush. I do lose a lot of the pencil when I colour, which is why I do the proper lineart afterwards! xD

Even pencil colour???

Marshroots In reply to AnuOjat [2008-01-07 23:27:23 +0000 UTC]

Nooo, just watercolour. It soaks it back up...if I want to lighten pencil colour I go over it with a white coloured pencil. C:

Aaah but this tutorial is only madefor those who use watercolour, NOT pencils then?

👍: 0 ⏩: 2

Marshroots In reply to AnuOjat [2008-01-08 15:24:45 +0000 UTC]

Yup! I rarely use coloured pencil on its own.

AnuOjat In reply to Marshroots [2008-01-08 20:42:17 +0000 UTC]

So...
When using watercolour, it automatically ruins the lines and is uncontrol able. So how on eath is THIS possible here???

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Marshroots In reply to AnuOjat [2008-01-08 21:14:57 +0000 UTC]

Watercolour is very much controllable! It only goes where you want it to, so long as you don't use too much water. It rubs out lines but that shouldn't be a problem if you're keeping your colouring within the lines. And then you can retouch lines you erased after you've coloured.

AnuOjat In reply to Marshroots [2008-01-08 21:19:33 +0000 UTC]

And with a better brush you keep it inside the lines?

How come then your watercolour work looks so... unhinged? I though watercolour was just abstrack art... it seemed so non-form like...

Just a small brush, if needed. Well...watercolour can be used much like any other paint. It goes where you take it with your brush, and nowhere else, so long as you're not painting onto something already wet. It can be like using felt pens, almost. They are absolutely controllable if you want then to be.

It might be (the watercolour attitude of mine) from the usual uncontrolled pictures/paintings of watercolour... I never realized until recently... that they even CAN be anything but just sparkle of blurred colours

Whoa, you know, I recently bought a new set of watercolours and was planning on giving 'em a try, but wasn't confident enough. xD
Thanks so much for this, it's so easy to understand, I'm definitely going to give 'em a go now, this is such a great start. Thank you!

I've actually just given 'em a go today, didn't turned out as planned, but it turned out a lot better than it would have without your advice (so thanks again). If you care to see, I can send it to you once I scan it. Can I ask, though, do you use the pencils or the paint straight out of the tube (or both)?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Marshroots In reply to Senus [2008-01-03 04:19:07 +0000 UTC]

I'd love to see! C:
I use solid watercolours and tubes: [link]

Senus In reply to Marshroots [2008-01-09 08:55:28 +0000 UTC]

I'll send you the link if I get to upload it (don't have access to a scanner at the mo'.
Damn, that's a hot set! Which do you reckon is the easiest to use out of those? I've currently only tried the pencils, and I find layering to be a little difficult with them (any tips? ^^). I want to try the paint, but I just know I'll make a mess (there's no space here to work D8) and my grandmother would stab me. XD

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Marshroots In reply to Senus [2008-01-12 17:52:00 +0000 UTC]

The tray set is definately easier to use!
Ah, I don't really have any experience with watercolour pencils, sorry. I tried them when I was younger but I was terrible. xD
I use my watercolours while I'm sat at the computer, on my knee next to my sketchbook with a cup of water next to the screen. You don't need much room! 8D

The paints? Really? I always thought you needed like a palette or something to use paints with, and for mixing and stuff. Huh, I'm so silly. xD

*RUBS CHIN* just using pencil hasn't really occured to me, it does have a very different line-quality than inking pens..
Thanks, I love looking at progress-images, especially if every step is being also explained <3

Heh wonderful tutorial it's kinda how I watercolour, but I use more shading layers only cuz I have the space to do that, I usually work on about A4 size ._. I definately like your idea on using purples and blues to shade even on colours like greens, I definately have to try that out :3 but you made this tutorial really nicely ^_^ the steps were very clear and well written and you talk very detailled about what you do awesome tutorial ^_^
