Description
For more Lil Formers head to www.LilFormers.comSo, now that the movie is out everyone has been asking when I'm going to do somethign about Transformers 2. Well, this is pretty much how I feel about it. This movie has been so universally hated, so torn apart by every critic and blog as one of the worst movies ever, I really don't think I can add anything. In fact it's almost become an art form of it's own finding as reviewers find new levels of hyperbole to insult the movie.
Though I will say that the movie's supporters generally say things like "It's not supposed to be brilliant, just turn your brain off and have fun!" Sorry but, "turn your brain off" and "have fun" are directly contradictory. I'm not going to give any movie a break and pretend I'm stupid because it has expensive special FX (not good, expensive).
Anyways, it's sort of a sad statement about entertainment when this quality of movie does so well. It's just encouraging studios to abandon plot and acting in favor of girls bending over and junk blowing up.

So you would have wanted it to be like the Ang Lee Hulk and have Sam Witwicky angst for an hour and a half and only have the Transformers show up in the finale? Cause that's what focusing too much on plot and acting gets you. Sometimes you gotta let the special effects tell the story and just dumb it down a bit. No one likes movies that are too complicated. That's why everyone hated the Ang Lee Hulk. That's why I hate Avatar. They didn't cater to the average moviegoer enough. Roger Ebert was an arrogant old twat who didn't acknowledge this (he liked the piece of art-house shit that was the Ang Lee Hulk and didn't like the much better Incredible Hulk).

Funny as in humorous or funny as in mentally disabled? If it's the latter, you are being extremely rude and discriminatory towards those with mental issues by saying everyone who liked ROTF was mentally disabled. I do agree there are many flaws with ROTF, but it is better than DOTM, which was just a piece of crap.

What a Terrable Sequal to a kick ass movie.
I'm going to act like the first one was a epic hardcore masterpiece , but its a mind blowing Expeirance, This one its just Lazy foamed in movie,
The human Characters are Annoying but not forgettable or stupid, The Racist Robots are Also Annoying, The story is Incredable Long Forced, and even the plot holes
are always deep with no sence of explanation, Theirs no Sence of Action no scence of wonder, its just Michael Bay Waisting a lot of money for the explosions spectacular (P.S i like him when he did 1 and 3)
That's it, Its a bad sequal plan and simple the only thing that is so entertaining is Optimus prime been Ressurected and Kick some fucking ass, and when the highlight of the movie is always the Autobots kicking ass...its a bad sign.

What about the robotic insect that crawled through the hole that Sam made in the wall of the building that Sam and Mikaela were using to hide from the Decepticons? That was the only way Michael Bay could make the concept of a robot disguising itself as an insect be realistic.

"Sorry but, "turn your brain off" and "have fun" are directly contradictory."
I'm happy to see that I'm not the only person in this universe who finds turning off one's brain in order to "have fun" to be an impossibility. Also, I'm happy to see that I'm not the only one who considers plot to be an essential part of any good movie, even ones with giant fighting robots.
In short, your comic here makes a lot more sense than the entirity of Revenge of the Fallen.
You can see my own rant on the issue here, although I believe you got to the point faster than I did. Sometimes a picture really is worth a thousand words. [link]

The dumbest thing you can do to TF2 is try to intellectualise or critique it as if it was meant to be something more than what it was - yes, it was gratuitous amounts of wobbling boobs, panties, cool cars, big fast robots doing gun-kata, and lots and lots of explosions.
Giving it a critique as if you expected something intellectual and deep to come out of it is like telling an adorable puppy it's too dumb to go to Harvard.
Puppies are nice- they are cute and cuddly, but they are not meant to go to Harvard.

M-IV In reply to MattMoylan [2009-08-05 12:09:10 +0000 UTC]
that's not the point - they were trying hard, they just weren't trying hard for what YOU want .
It's a similar reason to why I have a collection of Bruce Lee movies - the plots are horribly thin, acting is hilarious (point AT and laugh hilarious), and so many other things which modern film-makers would throw out the window with unprecedented disgust before they've gotten past the first page of the script.
But the reason why I have a Bruce Lee movie collection is because it's Bruce Lee and the fighting is awesome; and that's all the reason i need.

you might have to try reading what I typed again, but I'll draw it out a little: They were trying; just not trying to meet YOUR individual expectations (i.e. what you wanted the movie to be).
So, tell me how would YOU do it if you were to make a Transformers movie? - Transformers, which was based on a bunch of toys back in the 1980's, where the original cartoon series that sprung from it never really had an amazingly sophisticated story arc or plot to start with?
And when you're done with it, will it still be true to Transformers? (i.e: will it still BE about Transformers?) or will you have just made it into something that seems to be only acceptable to you and your critics?
My understanding of the Transformers movies is this: they made a movie in accordance to fan-service (albeit, they modernised it a lot so that it is still in some way current and relevant), they made a Transformers movie, which was about fictional robots from outer space doing battle on earth for one contrived reason or another (sticks to the original story pretty much).
I'm fine with the fact that this movie didn't pass for you - but it wasn't because they weren't trying or such; you just didn't like it. Pure and simple.

So your expectations were robots farting, dogs humping, giant genitals, and pissing on people?

M-IV In reply to MattMoylan [2009-08-06 01:22:31 +0000 UTC]
I didn't say I had any expectations of it (although it AT LEAST had to have robots fighting and lots of transforming), I mostly enjoyed it for what it was. If anything, my expectations are determined by context.
I'll ask you again, what do you think the Transformer movie should have been then, if you thought they did such a bad job?
Man, you can't pose an argument by begging the question lol.
So the robots were somewhat organic; which is fine! they were 'born' on a planet named 'Cybertron' (oh wait, you're not going to criticize that are you? I mean, I could swear that was in the original); and the directors decided to give them more of an 'anatomy' to demonstrate they weren't just cars that can go anthro on us. So they took a stab at humor on that - to me, that was 'So-bad-it's-good' humor, and it was deliberate if you can't tell by now.
I find the people who ranted on and gave this movie scathing reviews on part of the directors; is because they took the movie way too seriously.
You assume too much man (lol at your stab at my expectations - i haven't said anything about them yet, but you can put words in my mouth, that's fine- I'll just cough them back out), relax - everyone has different tastes (and that's what it all comes down to - you can sing and rant on about how bad the movie is, but there will still be people who liked the movie for what it was), so you didn't like the movie; it's no reason for everyone else to not like it.

I expect then to put effort not the plot, and also not push out such lazy design work. The robots they created were the easiest route they could've taken.

You forgot to mention Leo's '18 inches of meat' gag when he's telling Alice about the pizza he got. I couldn't believe they actually made a human character more annoying than Agent Simmons. I actually applauded when Simmons 'tazed the bro.'
One thing came up today on imdb that some glossed over: how does Jetfire go from the air and space museum to a sunny, dusty, dead-grass airplane graveyard?
Or for that matter, the border guard lets Bumblebee through, but doesn't stop Skids and Mudflap.
It was also sad to see that all the character development basically happened in the first film. I didn't get teary-eyed when Bumblebee was captured in the first film, but I got the 'boy and his robot' storyline. With the sequel, I didn't get that buddy relationship vibe.
During the whole dessert sequence at the end, at the midnight screening, I swear I got "combat fatigue.' 3/4 of the way through, my mind was thinking, 'when is this going to have a point and stop?' There's just so much flying around, that the city battle at the end of the first film was more coherent and I longed for the shortness of that fight.
Plus, someone pointed this out: the Transformers spit and have liquid flying from their mouth when they talk: when do robots have spittle?
Also, take the one scene where the one Decepticon knocks over the American flag on top of the Brooklyn Bridge. The guy doesn't appear to be flight-ready, so we assume he transformed, scaled the bridge, just to look around and knock down a flag? What some Decepticons will go through to show their hatred of America.
I don't know much of the Transformers backstory, but it felt like there was too much to take in, such as the hatchlings and the need for energon, let alone one moment Megatron is on Earth and the next, he's flown who knows how long a distance to get to Cybertron.
For that matter, where were those crashing Transformers from? How did they just happen to crash into the Pyramids area just when they were needed? Some seemed already formed, like that mine-sweeper, yet they should be in protoforms when crashing.
And did we really need to see Mojo's house get destroyed?
Well, I'll stop, I've rambled.

Meh, I kinda liked it. Hated the humor, and the overindulgence of the military in the final battle of course, not to mention Shia and his convoluted love story. Come to think of it, there wasn't a whole load that I really liked about it... Optimus vs Megs and Starscream, Megs vs Starscream, and of course, Jetfire. Everything else was either ridiculous or mildly amusing.
It kinda had that "second adaptation movie" feel to it. Like Mortal Kombat Anihilation, kinda trying to hard to please the fans but disregarding plot to do so.

Now, i liked the movie, but the plot, i agree, was bullshit. The only good things about it were wheelie [Except for the leg-hump] Alice, the Twins, Arcee, Sideswipe, Devastator [Except for the balls], Jolt, and that's it. Jetfire as an old man was a terrible idea.

it's not turning off your brain and enjoying the movie,
it's 'eople need to STOP going into movies expecting them to be just like the game, cartoon, etc they are based off of!'
They're never going to be 100% true, and minus the couple things i posted i didn't like, it WAS a good movie. If you go into it not expecting it to be true to the original story.
it is its own story. Connecting it with our world now makes it more believable. i liked it, and i've watched every transformer series.

The parts that bothered me about the movie were:
1. the dogs humping, not even needed. poop and hump jokes are not funny anymore.
2. the robot humping megan fox's leg (yes we get it, she's supposed to be sexy and hot...but you don't need a damn robot humping her leg to say that)
3. Sam running around with his pants down; again, not funny.
4. the stereotypically racist twins lol they were kinda funny at the start but man...talk about stereotyping!
5. the terminator transformer ... it even played terminator music when she came in >.>
6. Megan fox never getting dirty, injured, nothing. and they captured sam's parents...why not capture megan? oh wait, she might get dirty.
after those short clips, the movie is good. i love seeing the autobots so life like it was a good movie, and i was/am a huge transformer fan.
people are just too harsh on this movie of course it'll never be like the first one.
