Description
For more Lil Formers head to www.LilFormers.comSo, now that the movie is out everyone has been asking when I'm going to do somethign about Transformers 2. Well, this is pretty much how I feel about it. This movie has been so universally hated, so torn apart by every critic and blog as one of the worst movies ever, I really don't think I can add anything. In fact it's almost become an art form of it's own finding as reviewers find new levels of hyperbole to insult the movie.
Though I will say that the movie's supporters generally say things like "It's not supposed to be brilliant, just turn your brain off and have fun!" Sorry but, "turn your brain off" and "have fun" are directly contradictory. I'm not going to give any movie a break and pretend I'm stupid because it has expensive special FX (not good, expensive).
Anyways, it's sort of a sad statement about entertainment when this quality of movie does so well. It's just encouraging studios to abandon plot and acting in favor of girls bending over and junk blowing up.

Yeah, I can agree with you there.
... I just saw it. Action wise, to me, it's a good movie - kept me in suspense...
But, yeah - no plot. Where is the plot? Even the characters talked about plot in the movie...
Eh ... I'm going to write my own review. I liked it - for the suspenseful action... It's nostalgia. Now I feel bad...

uh...it had about 15 plots lol which movie were you watching? that was half the complaint..too MANY plots, not that it didn't have a plot. lol
They kinda had too many lil plots going at the same time as the major plot. Thats why some people got very grumpy.
i liked it though. i just didn't like the senseless humor in some scenes..

Eh - Well, no plot/15 plots, I guess it's up to the descretion of the viewer.
I say no plot 'cause it was more action packed (which makes it good, in my view) than really development of a story. I can see where'd you think multiple plots though; as with the first one, the story could do with some good fleshing out. Who were the Decepticon hatchlings?! And, so, where was the Fallen in the first movie? Once again, a lot of plot holes to fill.
Anyhow...
It kept me in suspense with all the action...
(I wish we could have seen more of the Arcee triplets.)

I'm with you on this. Admittedly I enjoyed the 'casting' of the transformers, in that they did a very good job of modernizing the transformers (Soundwave as a Satellite?? Perfect!)
... however that doesn't excuse them from having a terrible plot, showgirls and fart-joke level humour. The only way this will change though is if the movie did poorly. And, for being reviewed as one of the worst movies I can remember it's still doing amazingly well. As long as it does well... well it'll never get better than what it is... *tear*

Personally, my overall love of TF prevented me from bashing it. I'm just that biased towards TF.
There WERE some things that did make me go "WTF?" (mainly Sam's mother acting crazy and the Decepti-scrotum that Devastator sported), but the rest of the movie more than made up for it to me.
What were your personal thoughts on the movie?

what parts got left unexplained? lol
Decepticon's wanted to destroy the sun to harvest energon to power their offspring of Decepticon's that kept dying because they didn't have energon, or a spark.
Autobot's and humans work together to try and stop this.
what didn't get explained? lol!

lol, for example, did Sam stop seeing the symbols? And then, why did he so? And wasn't there something planted into his head by the Doctor so that Megatron could see the symbols? What happened with that? Either the German dub was crap or I missed that. Lol!

lol oh they were going to plant something in his head, but he was saved before they could do that.
Sam wouldn't need to see the symbols anymore because the prime's object was destroyed. thats all the symbols were doing was pointing him too that.
but i do agree that should've been wrapped up. maybe he can still see dead people, i mean symbols lol

I saw that movie saturday (unwillingly mind you, as my friend wanted to see it and I wanted to hang out with him), and after seeing it, I now want to find out how Michael Bay's mind works exactly. I was even expecting a mindless romp like the first one (then again, I go into every Michael Bay movie with that expectation), but even this went below my already low standards.
You could add how bad Bay's camera control is to the list as well. The actions scenes gave me a headache with just how much the camera moved, and how hard it was to follow. Of course, as bad as the new Street Fighter movie is (no, I haven't seen it, but clips on youtube say suck), at least that had Chris Klien yelling Bob instead of bomb in a scene (so bad, it's litterally funny, at the end of the video): [link]

I don't see what the big deal is about, Transformers isn't (and never has been) exactly Shakespeare. Just like PokΓ©mon, it was a cartoon created to act as a giant ad campaign to increase toy sales, and has been re-spun, re-invented and resurrected through new generation after new generation to fulfill its primary objective - make money. In that respect, TF2 is a success.
In fact, all the negative hype probably wont even hurt their profit margin, there's no such thing as bad publicity here because people will probably still go to see it just to see how bad it really was, so all those critics rubbishing it are only helping it to become a bigger success. If you want to analyse scripting, plotting and loyalty to source material go watch LOTR and look into the upcoming Hobbit film (for a good example) or the Harry Potter films (for a bad example).
So do 'switch your brain off' because TF2 isn't meant to be thought provoking. Once the ticket is your hand and your money is in their pocket, no-one actually cares if even watch the movie or what you think of it. Just sit back and accept it for what it is - a cash-in. With Megan Fox.

it's not that you have to turn your brain off, it's that you have to go into the movie not expecting it to be just like the cartoon series.
It ain't guna happen people, just sit back and enjoy it for what it's worth

The one thing I will take issue with from your comments is the βturn your brain offβ notion that I have to pretend to be stupid in order to enjoy a movie. If Michael Bay made a RoadRunner cartoon, then I can see that; itβs a simple and basic idea that you donβt have think much about because there is not much put into it, but on the other hand you donβt get much out of it.
For 200 Million dollar film, I expect a great deal more than a RoadRunner plot and storyline. And no, Transformers isn't exactly Shakespeare, but neither is Batman and yet the Dark Knight manage to have a good plot and storyline so there really isnβt any excuse for the creative incompetence and laziness of Michael Bay and the Transformers films heβs made.
π: 0 β©: 1
wannabe-flea In reply to GraphicBrat [2009-07-05 03:05:51 +0000 UTC]
"Turn off your brain" doesn't mean pretend to be stupid. In the same way that we're expected to suspend reality in order to enjoy films that go beyond the realm of the normal world, be it sci-fi or fantasy, we shouldn't demand that they then conform to reality in every other sense. Complaining about scripting, and character interaction just seems trivial to me when 5 minutes later we're watching 40ft robots beat each other into scrap metal.
And please, don't take everything I write to be literal - it's an infantile argument strategy that undermines any valid opinions you care to make, which you did and I respect. "It's not exactly Shakespeare(or rocket science/Da Vinci/Stairway to Heaven)" was a phrase used to demonstrate the lack of substance in Transformers as a franchise - there never was any substance to draw from or build on, both TF films seem no different to me than the original animated film, barring the better special effects and greater emphasis on the human characters, and if Michael Bay had stretched himself to make it more, 'fanboys' would still have cried outrage because 'he didn't preserve the essence of the source material' or something else along those lines.
Dark Knight on the other hand is based on Batman, a character who has been around since what, the 40's? A character with more than half a century worth of development - unique and inspired chracters, complex themes and back stories and a nearly inexhaustable wealth of material to produce screenplays from, so no, it's not 'exactly' Shakespeare either, but it has that key element. Substance.
Is it right that so much money was spent on this film? On any fim? I can think of many ways that money could have been put to better use, and 'making a better film' doesn't even make it to the top 100. But, just like everyone else spouting opinions on the internet, the studios couldn't care less what you or I have to say about it because, at the end of the day, they're still making a profit.
So, I choose to accept films for what they are. I choose to dismiss rubbish films as just that and don't watch them a second time, and equally, I choose to praise good films by purchasing them and enjoying them over and over. Pesonally, I didn't come away from TF2 disappointed - it fulfilled all my expectations, and frankly, I was happy to spend that time enjoying what was on the screen because it was such a relief from the seriousness of my everyday life. All these people who put so much effort into their criticism and outrage, I don't whether to pity them or envy them, for having nothing better to worry.
And by the way, those Roadrunner cartoons, and others of that nature, which you're so quick to dismiss as fluff, have influenced cinema and television, classic and modern, in so many ways that your lack of insight isn't even funny. Great comics such as the Monty Python crew, and Mel Brooks owe so much of their fame to the 'simple and basic' ideas laid out in those cartoons.

I didn't view it like a retard (although my reaction could be that to a retard's) for me I thought RoTF was fairly decent in many aspects, personally I was shocked a bit by all the dirty humor and more..but then again I'm actually pretty desensitizd to it alot not to give a rats ass about it. I think the story flowed a lot smoother than the first one, but also there were a couple of mess-ups in the plot outline. Nonetheless, I thought it pretty much was worth my money to see it.

I agree with you that ROTF was a disappointment. Though the action scenes were better than the one from the first movie, but the humor was worse. They were really unecessary and it almost killed the movie for me. I didn't expect anyone complaining about Devastator's wrecking balls up until now. This movie is an example of the already existing moviepoclypse (the end of good movies).

I hate it even more when someone who used to have a hilarious web-comic turns it into a glorified soapbox. This guy did to Lil'formers, what Scott Ramsoomair did to VGcats. Turned into unfunny "Look, I'm bashing something cause it's popular too! Duh-hur!" drivel. I miss this comic's funny days. Like the strip about knock-offs.

Wait, VGCats was funny at some point? Sorry, but it never was so that makes your example faulty (also, K.C. Green would like his facial expressions back from him), but then again, as Ctrl Alt Del has shown us, it's not like making a gaming webcomic is hard to do. All you have to do is appeal to the lowest common denominator and you can somehow be successful. Use an example of a comic that doesn't ware out the copy and paste buttons on his computer for his comic, as well as doesn't just assume I know what his joke and writing is referencing in order to be a little funny.
I'd go into more, but I think internet funny man, Ben "Yhatzee" Croshaw sums it up. No, I'm not being a sheep (like you seem to think anyone who agrees with a review, or what someone said, does), but Yhatzee says it better than I ever could (that and I don't feel like typing an essay over it, plus it's all true): [link]
