So, now that the movie is out everyone has been asking when I'm going to do somethign about Transformers 2. Well, this is pretty much how I feel about it. This movie has been so universally hated, so torn apart by every critic and blog as one of the worst movies ever, I really don't think I can add anything. In fact it's almost become an art form of it's own finding as reviewers find new levels of hyperbole to insult the movie.

Though I will say that the movie's supporters generally say things like "It's not supposed to be brilliant, just turn your brain off and have fun!" Sorry but, "turn your brain off" and "have fun" are directly contradictory. I'm not going to give any movie a break and pretend I'm stupid because it has expensive special FX (not good, expensive).

Anyways, it's sort of a sad statement about entertainment when this quality of movie does so well. It's just encouraging studios to abandon plot and acting in favor of girls bending over and junk blowing up.

The book was a lot better. That's why I didn't enjoy the movie as much as I thought I would, but, as for critics saying it's the worst movie ever made, that's a bit much. "Transmorphers" has that honor, IMO.

Though I didn't hate it, it could have been MUCH better. Of course, it could have been much WORSE as well (At least it was Bay and not Boll).

TF2 must be a very talented whore, because quite a few people are going back for seconds and thirds.

Critics are only useful as long as people listen to them. It's nice to see that's not the case here!

Ah really? Most critics like Roger Ebert, Hary Knowles etc tend to provide thoughtful analysis. Which critics do you mean?

Twinsnake-Coatl In reply to MattMoylan [2009-06-30 01:52:09 +0000 UTC]

All of them. Fancy pants, know-it-alls with a fancy vocab who think they can influence what people think.
One critic I like is Mario Netas, an animated character. He has no background or fancy degree, he's just a regular Joe who watches a movie and gives his opinion.

I don't think anyone has a degree in criticology heh... Every critic just watches the movie and gives their opinion.

My guess they go to film school or something like that. Then become resentful movie critics because they were never abe to make one themselves.

I actually saw it yesterday...

I didn't think it was that bad...

It was basically just like the first one, except with a style of humor similar to Family Guy.

Devastator's scrotum made me sad.

Haven't seen the new movie yet... but I wonder if I should bother to shell money towards it. You say no good... and IMDB gives it 6/10... so yea...

My problems with the movie start with all of the swearing, fart jokes, dogs/robots humping, and the rest of the forced "humor". Seriously, if I wanted that, I'd go see The Hangover or Year One.

When HASBRO is the second on-screen credit, it'd be nice to make it a LITTLE more family-friendly. Then, instead of filling it with all the sophomoric humor, there might actually have BEEN room for more plot development!

At least Starscream and Megatron got something of their classic mutual-lack-of-admiration relationship going.,,

DameanBlood In reply to ??? [2009-06-29 22:56:25 +0000 UTC]

My only REAL complaints about the movie where.. of course... Mudflap and Skids.. they seemed to be the "Jar Jar Binks" of the movie.. which I really didn't like.

Soundwave is my all time favorite Transformer, seeing that his voice was "Similar" to the original one really pleased me.. I just wish he did more.

And Megatron being "Second-Banana" really doesn't sit well with me.. He's always been the Leader of the Decepticon's and a Real badass too.. [Not counting when he became Galvatron in the 86 Movie.]

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

rds9674 In reply to DameanBlood [2009-06-29 23:03:36 +0000 UTC]

Aside from being coerced by the entity that rebuilt him, Galvatron was fairly badass. Until that plasma bath on Thrull, that is... then he was just plain off his rocker.

Similarly, when you consider that the Fallen here was the progenitor of the entire Decepticon faction, I could see where Megatron would act subservient... at least, until the Fallen had a chance to activate that device. Then, Megs was probably ready to declare an end to the Fallen's usefulness...

Of course, none of that would actually get through to the movie because they were more concerned with Jetfire farting his braking parachutes, Wheelie humping Mikaela's leg, and finding a way to get John Turturro to say "scrotum".

I thought the movie was okay, there were good parts, sorta

Prime's Fight scene was pretty cool.

The whole Magnetic staff thing was neat.

Jet Fire's grumpy old man attitude.

I wasn't fond of some of the humor, my little brother didn't like the fact that most of this was coming from the twins, and wheelie, who happen to be played by Sponge bob, the kid loves Spongebob

"Turn your brain off" and "have fun" are far from directly contradictory, unless you can somehow manage to debate the merits of nuclear test ban treaties while having sex.

We're also gearing up for Independence Day here in the States, and while the fireworks are certainly representative of battle and sacrifice, I can't imagine too many people are thinking about the lives laid down in the Revolutionary War and Washington's military strategy while they watch the pretty colors explode in the sky.

Should more summer blockbusters be intelligent, tightly-plotted, and well-characterized? Yes. And a year ago, the success of Iron Man and the overwhelming success of The Dark Knight proved that they can be profitable ventures, too.

But I don't need or want ALL of my entertainment...and let me emphasize ENTERTAINMENT...to challenge me intellectually. Because as bad as these "brainless" movies might seem, there are just as many high-minded films that aimed at thought-provoking and ended up being just as horrid for different reasons.

In short, I reject the notion that I cannot simply be and let a big, loud, and dumb action flick wash over me and "ooh" and "aah" at the spectacle of it without somehow diminishing my perceived intelligence.

Sometimes, the brain needs a break.

Ironic a movie can be so hated and yet do so well. More ironic that a movie can do well at all with such a horrible advertising campaign to "go with it" if you would even call it present.

There were things I liked in this one better, though the humor 90% of the time wasn't it (the non-high parents I liked). I so wish they let Ravage kill the twins or something. Of course on the subject why any robot would put wrecking balls in its crotch instead of somewhere useful... Then again I got somewhat confused, by the end it looked like there were two full Devastators and 40 constructicons running around. THAT I couldn't follow.

I did actually like this one mostly, though much like the first there's many things I can find to complain about. Firing the writers would probably fix most of that though. They had some good ideas... and then lit them on fire with flaming poo.

Too many new chacters with no growth of excisting ones was a downfall too. Oddly enough, thought Simmons was one of the better characters this time around. And speaking of the old man, they muddled his speach, could't make out half his lines. As for the plot (what there was...) nice way to hack up 20+ years of Transformers lore.

I did like Ravage though!

"Too many new characters with no growth of existing ones." Sounds an awful lot like several episodes of the cartoon if you ask me. "Hi, I'm -character name- you'll see me a total of 30 seconds in the entire series. Buy my toy!"

damn your artist comments have pretty much hit the nail on the head really. this movie will have a sequel it's grossed so much money despite my warnings that it's decent at best.

i gave it two chances as i was not a big fan of the first (and no not because i am a g1 fan boy i left that at home to give the first movie a real chance.) but because of poor writting, forced humor, things that don't make much sense from an established continuity stand point. and boring and often conffusing fight scenes not to mention poor choices by the robots to entrust the all apsrk to a child who could have been crushed easily by megatron but because the script wills it..doesn't. uugh you don't even have to hate the designs to not like the first one it did well on it's own to dash my hopes of a good movie.

but i still gave the second one a fair chance and was eeeeeh even more dissapointed thus i am done with the live action movies and won't see the sequal which you know will be just as worse if not more so.

i just got fired from my job meanwhile bay sleeps on a pile of money tonight. great i feel good. but hey maybe that's your joke...bay reading bad reviews on a pile of money while blowing shit up or something..cause no matter how bad the movie is he still made bank and will continue to do so.

besides people somewho love the movie..i keep seeing "tf2 was awesome dduuuuude." posted all over da. people even love skid and mudflap....i repeat people actualy loved those two abominations with two of the worst face designs i have ever seen. oh why oh why do people love those two fuck heads.

Not that we all didn't know you were going to hate the movie anyway, But G1 had less plot, more blatant racial stereotypes, and vastly less intriguing characters (with the exception of everyone's hero, Optimus Prime, who is by the way in the movie). That doesn't stop grown men today from writing comic books and devising new story lines based on the exact same thing.

I'm not saying everyones gotta love it but the purists who complain hate it because it's not G1, the critics complain because they're paid to until the next citizen cain comes out. The worst part is that the animators, who worked their asses harder than the directors and actors in this movie, no one even pays any mind to the spectacular job they did, even artists and animators who know how hard that is.

Look, I'm no Michael Bay fan and I'm not trying to be an internet ass hole. But did everyone realize the movie they were going to was a Transformers movie? what did everyone expect? I'm proud to say I loved the movie and can't wait to see it again.

Northern-Lights-sky In reply to MattMoylan [2009-06-29 21:20:39 +0000 UTC]

I was just referring to everyone's complaints about a lack of plot and the twins being racist in the movie and at the same time hold the first generation in high esteem.

That's a fair question. I don't know, batman, spiderman, ironman, they're all people characters so the movies can be badass and fun while still having good themes and such. But i guess it's harder to get a non-fanboy audience to relate to a robot learning that with great power comes great responsibility or something like that so we're stuck with these human characters who are just kinda thrown in there to cover the human elements of the movie when it's not even about them, it's about the transformers.

Who knows, maybe a real director? But you're right in that there is a big difference between the dark knight, xmen, ect, and transformers revenge of the fallen. Personally I got THE transformers movie I've been waiting for and I do hope it stops here while some people are looking for redemption in the franchise. But we could have been stuck with a blue-screened mess of a movie like Xmen 3, GIJoe, it goes on.

Again, I follow the whole animation deal it just busts my balls when no one even gives a rat about the guys who spend five days to a single imax frame and do a good job of it to. At least on the internet, lots of people I know liked the movie.

I, at least, thought the plot was a lot better than the first, and overall I liked ROTF. But there were just a couple things that did not sit well with me and I think needed to be changed/removed:

1. there were only 7 Primes (er... what about the original 13?)
2. the Decepticons were able to use the Matrix (stupid Bay... do ur friggin' research b4 messing w/ something of that importance; 'cons aren't physically able to use the Matrix, remember?)
3. Arcee was three different robots (wtf??)
4. Skids and Mudflap were called the twins (uh, hello? he puts Sideswipe in the movie but not Sunstreaker, AND he calls some other bots "the twins". is he retarded?)
5. the fact that Jetfire was an old-timer (*smacks head* why?? Jetfire was such an awesome character up until that movie! if Bay needed an older mech, he could've just used Kup)
6. Megatron, I repeat, MEGATRON practically sucked up to The Fallen (what's up w/ that?! this Megatron we're talking about, the one who didn't even want to bow down to Unicron! The Fallen may have been the original Decepticon, but even he followed Unicron. so why the heck is Megs obeying The Fallen if he won't even follow Unicron, and willingly too?)

But other than those six things, I absolutely loved it! Oh, and the humping may have been a bit much too... XD. I think if you can stand those six things listed above, then you'll honestly enjoy the movie. Sorry for ranting, I hate myself for hating on something Transformers related, but Bay just pushed my buttons a little in this movie. Don't worry, I still really enjoyed it!!

PS- if u love special effects, than this is the movie to see!! the FX were the bomb in this film! ^-^

Not always. Spider-man:

1st movie=good
2nd movie=better
3rd movie=crapolla.

Oddly enough ROTF and SM3 have many things in common:

Unfaithful to the source material.
Changes to the characters just to fit the script.
Inappropriate moments of comedy.
Too many but underdeveloped villains.

And despite being marked as bad, horrible and rotten movies they still made lots of money.

Wait, should "unfaithful to the source material" even count. I mean Don Bluth's "The Secret of NIMH" and "Wicked" were way off from the source material, but are still considered to very popular among the masses, even to those who read the books. Heck, I heard that Wicked had gotten some mix reviews from critics when it first came out but still it grows.
