So, now that the movie is out everyone has been asking when I'm going to do somethign about Transformers 2. Well, this is pretty much how I feel about it. This movie has been so universally hated, so torn apart by every critic and blog as one of the worst movies ever, I really don't think I can add anything. In fact it's almost become an art form of it's own finding as reviewers find new levels of hyperbole to insult the movie.

Though I will say that the movie's supporters generally say things like "It's not supposed to be brilliant, just turn your brain off and have fun!" Sorry but, "turn your brain off" and "have fun" are directly contradictory. I'm not going to give any movie a break and pretend I'm stupid because it has expensive special FX (not good, expensive).

Anyways, it's sort of a sad statement about entertainment when this quality of movie does so well. It's just encouraging studios to abandon plot and acting in favor of girls bending over and junk blowing up.

The part about the movie that I like was that they made Screamer to be more G1 and as for Soundwave, he reminded me more of Dr. Claw from Inspector Gaget.

I acknowledge that it has plenty of faults. Less juvenile humour would have been nice, less of Mudflap and Skids and more of the other Autobots would have been stellar, and no Wheelie humping Mikaela's leg.

That said, I really didn't go into the movie expecting anything with a deep storyline - it's a Michael Bay movie for Primus's sake! I still had fun watching it though, and will be glad as the fandom all gets to see it so that fanfic will start gearing up again and new stories come out based on the movie. I know the fanfic will be a lot better plotted than the movie and the neglected characters will get addressed by ficcers.

I don't think you need to turn off your brain for it, just understand that it's a Michael Bay movie, it's not going to live up to better sci-fi flicks that have come out recently simply because he's the one in charge, and more's the pity.

I loved this movie, I liked it better than the first.
I didn't like the jive going down with "Alice the Pretender" and I thought it was dumb that Jetfire died to help Optimus, but otherwise, it was great!

I think soundwave didn't get enough screen time- he's my fav transformer! But I think they were the best scenes that didn't involve the autobots- it was plain evil sceeming! Also, for those who didn't know the "primes" were the original 13 transformers that Unicron and Primus created, the Fallen was the evil 13th robo-child!!!!

i was expecting the sequel to be less...how should i say it less fan-ficcy i'm pretty sure i read saw that plot two years ago on a fan-fic site.

they so could have done better for the film...i mean little kids went and saw it. even i was traumatized...S7 thong *shudders and attempts to spork out own eyes*

i must comment on this...is Sam stupid? i mean a giant alien robot comes asking for your help to fight other alien robots...don't know about you but i wouldn't choose school, i'd go with the robot.

i was hoping it would be a really solid continuation of the first film, but it was really made for the 8 year olds who were going to beg their parents for the toys. i found it pretty disappointing. i hated the twins sooooo much. and the humping and drug use? i'm glad i'm not the only one who thought it was unnecessary.

I saw ROTF and I actually enjoyed it.I actually liked it more than the 1st Transformers film.
Yeah it had flaws.Like that there was more focous on Skids and Mudflap(not that I had a problem with it since they made the movie funny) or that the plot was a bit more cartoony. But I can accept that.
I mean hey the movie is based on a cheesy cartoon that is based on a toy line.I mean what you expect?Transformers never had a deep and psychological meaning. It was just robots fighting robots.
I personaly prefer ROTF way more than the crappy Star Trek 09 and the overhyped Transformers 1.Because hey at least ROTF focoused on the Transformers.

My favorite review for this film so far -

"Only an a*****e could have made this film."

Granted I haven't seen the 2nd one (not going to) but considering I hated the film film and found boring, obnoxious and betraying the mythos I wondered honestly what people were expecting.

I expected a fun movie. I expected a plot that could hold a candle to at LEAST a 23 minute Saturday Morning Cartoon. I expected some semblance of personality in the Transformers besides just 2 unfunny characters. I expected it NOT to be everything bad about the first movie made into a 2.5 hour mess. I expected a movie with gripping action, not boring, uninspired fight scenes that more glorified the military than anything else. I expected to be entertained, not to be texting to friends how bored I was. I expected a movie not to sink to the level of showing giant robot testicles.

I love Transformers. I HATE "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen."

I loved the first movie... while it had some nitpicks, I thought it hit all the right spots and made me into a Transformers fan.

But this one? It basically continued doing the things were bad with the first movie, and forgot to keep going with the things that were good. It had some bright spots (I agree with the thought that Jetfire was so much win, and the Forest Battle was epic), but they were overshadowed by all the lousy bits.

Kind of disappointed in the "what did you expect?" reactions to some of the criticism, too. What I expected was to get a movie that had fun action and a good plot, because that is completely doable, and indeed there have been plenty of movies in recent times that have done it. Being an action movie about a franchise doesn't give the writers carte blanche to not write a good script, and doesn't mean we should settle for bad writing.

For me, TF2 had the potential to be one of the best movies I've seen in awhile. Unfortunately, the excessive shallow "beer and fart jokes" in a movie that was presented to be an action flick was a huge downer. Oh, and the excessive screentime of Skids and Mudflap pretty much ruined the movie for me. If they had been regulated to background characters (like pretty much all of the OTHER Autobots except Prime), they would have been tolerable.

Bad plot? I come to expect that from an action movie...the so-called plot only exists to transfer to the next scene of awesome stuff getting blown up.

I'm a purist.. but I go in expecting maybe... 50% to be changed... this coulda been GoBots with Transformer names.

so... Downs
1. racist transformers
2. humping robots
3. the fallen... which im pretty sure didnt exist
4. 7 primes? there were many more than that
5 .they said they didnt know their history - FALSE
6. an Autobot Matrix of leadership that Decepticons could use..
7. a humanoid robot to that degree
8. mixed timelines with beast wars
9. Megatron bowing to anyone but Unicron
10. Jetfire being an old man... if they wanted comedy relief they just needed to bring in Blur. And if they needed an old man they coulda used Cup
11. RC doesn't go anywhere without Springer if she can help it
12. No Ultra Magnus or Hot-Rod to take over when Prime falls
13. destroyed Devastator .. made him into giant Squirpanox (sp?)
14. Insectacons were actually the size of insects...
... did i miss anything?

upsides

1. Megan Fox
2. Cool adaption of Soundwave and his dog
3. some plot parts had possibilities

My opinions on your list:

1. If you take them as racist, then that's up to you. I took them as a poser idiots who adopted a speech mode they thought was "cool".

2. I agree there, Mojo may have been funny but I could have done without Wheelie humping Mikaela's leg, and her just accepting it.

3. He did, in the comics. He's one of Primus's first creations, the Original Thirteen. He turned against Primus and joined Unicron instead. Sure, the movie alters that history a bit, but the basic concept is there.

4. I thought I heard 12, which would fit the story about the Original Thirteen. Maybe I should dig up the money to see it again and make sure.

8. Eh, I don't mind, it's a different continuity anyway.

9. According to Straya's LJ post, in the prequel comics of this movie, the Fallen was Megatron's mentor. Why shouldn't Megatron bow to him? G1 Megs would bow to the Fallen's G1 manifestation (the Fallen is a multiversal being, so it counts as the same mech) as well, or get burned (really, G1 Fallen is literally on fire).

10. I thought of Jetfire as a cross between Kup (which is the correct spelling!) and Skylynx. Plenty old codgeriness with a good deal of high self opinion.

11. Why? Can't Arcee be independent? She'd have had to have been tough to survive the war this long so I don't see why she would have to constantly stay under Springer's wing (or rotor blade, in his case). Besides, G1 Arcee first showed interest in Hot Rod, before she really got with Springer, and even as badly as she was served in the G1 cartoons, she seemed more competent than Roddy did at the start of TFTM, where their biggest scene together happened. Anyway, movie Arcee has three sets of optics to keep an eye on her own aft with, and likely three sets of processors as well, with her three bodies.

12. As much as I love Magnus, and am fond of Roddy, the real central character of Bayformers is not actually any of the robots, it's Sam. As for someone coming in and taking over after Prime fell, that's what Sam did, by finding someone who could read the Prime language and going and getting the Matrix. In the end, him doing so brought Optimus back too. I would love to see a blue and white Peterbilt by the name of "Ultra Magnus" in movieverse, but the movie was more about Sam.

13. For a mech the size of Devastator, I can see why it was thought he was more believable if he had to be quadrupedal. And the spelling is "Scorponok".

14. I loved Insecticons the size of real Earth insects, got idea for the job they were seen doing - reconnaissance.

Oh, and Ravage is not a dog, he's cat. I agree however that he was done well.

In the end however, I have nothing against any of your opinions.

I just don't know what to say... I think I have to watch it again to see if I'm still annoyed, disappointed, and offended. Visually I enjoyed it, except for Jetfire and his cane. Would have the cane if he was younger? If not what was that landing gear used for? Those twins....UGH! Yeah we get Jar-Jar twins in TF now! I thought I was the only one who noticed the cursing. I'm trying not to let the negatives control my thoughts on the film.

I didn't really pay attention to the plot in either movie - I was just making fun of everything the whole time, and this one was fun simply because I had my friend with me to laugh with.

The retard twins I could have done without (give me Sideswipe and SIDESWIPE and day, but not those two). But the worst part was the Devastator balls.
