Description
For more Lil Formers head to www.LilFormers.comSo, now that the movie is out everyone has been asking when I'm going to do somethign about Transformers 2. Well, this is pretty much how I feel about it. This movie has been so universally hated, so torn apart by every critic and blog as one of the worst movies ever, I really don't think I can add anything. In fact it's almost become an art form of it's own finding as reviewers find new levels of hyperbole to insult the movie.
Though I will say that the movie's supporters generally say things like "It's not supposed to be brilliant, just turn your brain off and have fun!" Sorry but, "turn your brain off" and "have fun" are directly contradictory. I'm not going to give any movie a break and pretend I'm stupid because it has expensive special FX (not good, expensive).
Anyways, it's sort of a sad statement about entertainment when this quality of movie does so well. It's just encouraging studios to abandon plot and acting in favor of girls bending over and junk blowing up.

I'd give it a B or a B-.
No matter what the movie, I rarely go in expecting very much, and I just wait to see whether or not it will surprise me.
When I saw this was another 2 hour Plus movie, I was concerned that Bay dragged on with some scenes again, which he did.
But at least it was largely only one scene this time
(still annoying though)
I saw your earlier referenced cane piece in the film, and frankly I'd forgotten about your reference until that scene.
I found the cane bit to be rather amusing, and I feel that might have even been the intent of it
The Pretender and Fallen were interesting touches (despite some plot holes).
All in all, I don't regret checking it out. It wasn't THAT bad, I've seen FAR worse!

Man. I love how half these comments are just insulting the people who have the opposite opinion as they do.
That said, I agree. I loved the first movie. I have it on blueray and have one of the special DVD release boxes. I'm not sure what people keep talking about 'I went to see robots beat the crap out of one another for two hours.' Really. The first half of the movie was only marbled with that between Sam's wonderfully normal life adventures and lots of hot chicks from various angles. The last half actually made me bored. I felt very guilty about this. But really. It was the USAF vs red shirt Decepticons shooting around pillars for a long time there. And the Fallen was just not.... epic feeling.
I sort of think they tried. But, sadly, in the end the entire premise felt like something G1 Megatron would come up with for the old half hour episodes. The mysticism made it feel even sillier- but the Matrix has always been kind of like that anyway. I still won't stop dissing robot heaven.
I would be fine with all of that if not for the humor. I just hate that kind of humor, so... there's only so many parts of my brain I can turn off.
At least it had good parts. And who cares about the racial stereotype. Those twins were just not funny enough to be the huge running gag they were.
But my opinion is meaningless. The sales will justify everything they've done and movie 3 will probably be more of the same. Maybe movie 3 will feel more epic with Megatron back in command. I felt like the Fallen's 'epic' story felt kind of flat.

well at least you got this out of your system ^_^ This movie certainly has stirred up quite the proverbial hornets nest
I liked it because big robots were beating the crap out of each other. I didn't like it because there was soooo much we could've done without (pretty much what you covered actually )
I made it a point to not go into this with high expectations - if a studio put THIS much hype and promotion into a movie...it can't possibly be good.

Was wondering what you thought about the movie. The action and some robots (especially hearing Peter Cullen and Frank Welker) were the only enjoyable parts for me. And I liked Jetfire, if only I've something for Old Codgers. But the action got stale in the second half, and everything else... Bleh! Everything else doesn't seem like a Transformers gig, if you get what I mean. Sorta like people who don't like the Zelda cartoon, cos Link's a womaniser.
So I say I've mixed feelings about the movie, but more negetive than positive. And I'm in the same prediciment, where I was asked to make fun of the movie, but what could I poke at that nobody else has?
Also, though I'm not very sure, but is Movie Prime far more bloodthristy and aggresive than all the other Primes? Just when you look at a guy who wants to preserve life, he keeps killing and decapitating Decepticons. He must some obsession regarding heads. "GIVE ME YOUR FACE!" as he says to The Fallen.

I blame the Writer's Strike, though Bay's style seems to be equally at fault.
Perhaps the next film will have a different director...wonder if Bryan Singer's interested...

i really like dthe film to be honest, its better than dark night just for the fact that it had better sound quality!
I don't have many complaints about the film apart from the story could have been explained more and actually be able to see whats going on in the fight scenes more apart from that i think its better than the first film!

I left feeling slightly disappointed - the way I see it is when is a sequel better than the original? The truth is rarely. It's bigger and has a hell of a lot more action but by no means is it a terrible film.
I still enjoyed the sequel as a stand alone film, there was a bit too much cursing for my liking and some of the one liners were pretty naff.
I'm 27 and I will never grow too old or tired of Transformers.

Irvine is good, I really like his limit break and he's a fun character. However, ultimately I do have a thing for the angst-bucket lead characters, which is why Squall is my top favourite (along with Cloud, and Kain Highwind).
Though these days they take second place after Ultra Magnus and Optimus Prime as my favourites.

In truth, the only ones I ever completed were 7 and 8, because I managed to get PC editions of them, though I learned the storylines of several of the others. I loved those two, with a distinct leaning more to 8 (it seems a lot lighter than 7).
I like the storyline of 4, though not the recent sequel, and as for 10... well I don't mind it but it was never really high on my favourites list of FFs. Add to the fact that my OTP for it (Yunalai) is less than common... well I never took to it as much as I did some of the others.

Well....you can sure tell it's a Michael Bay film! I myself liked it, save the immature humor at certain points (I could've lived without the dogs humping or Devastator's you-know-whats). I thought the twins were great and didn't think any part of the movie was racist. True, the plot and script could've been better.
It was loud and the explosions were pretty and that's what I was expecting...not Oscar material. Hmmm...is it wrong that I laughed my ass off @ Agent Simmons' man-thong? XD

Have seen it twice, will see it again. $200 million grossed in five days. I bet the critics are pissed.
And this is coming from someone who didn't completely turn their brain off and did have fun.
But you can't please everyone. Animated was the best thing since BW and people complained the robots looked weird. We got the most bad ass looking, realistic robots ever with the movies and people complain about what they feel is poor writing. And even with BW, there were still all those "TRUKK NOT MUNKY" people. 'Course, even G1 has its share of haters who can't understand how anyone would enjoy "Megatron's evil plot of week" hair-brained schemes alongside animation errors galore.
LOL FANDOM. It can bitch about anything and usually does. Me, I take what I can get and have fun with it. Life's too short to wank over it all.

Sure, I -could- bitch about the plot holes, the lack of screentime for a lot of the characters (especially Sideswipe! ;_; He seemed SO AWESOME in what little we saw of him!) and so on and so forth, but honestly, why bother? In the end, it's a movie that I HAD FUN with. And that's the important thing.

Indeed it is... People are having fun with it and that's what counts. I mean, really. There are ways to improve every movie out there. Every TF series ever made could have been altered in some way to make it better, stronger.
Personally, I hope RotF continues to make a crap load of cash. It'll keep the property strong.

I wasn't a fan of Bay before he butchered this franchise, I'm even less of a fan now.
IMO he needs 1. to stop trying to be funny and 2. listen to the complaints about BOTH films before attempting a 3rd, as what was broken before is still broken.
At least, that's what I'm getting from the on-line debate.

I enjoyed the film, but there was a lot of stuff they could either cut (e.g. humping, Dev's balls) or shortened. Or expanded, come to think of it-why the hell did they design such cool robots only for them to get their screentime shafted in favour of Mudflap and Skids?
