So, now that the movie is out everyone has been asking when I'm going to do somethign about Transformers 2. Well, this is pretty much how I feel about it. This movie has been so universally hated, so torn apart by every critic and blog as one of the worst movies ever, I really don't think I can add anything. In fact it's almost become an art form of it's own finding as reviewers find new levels of hyperbole to insult the movie.

Though I will say that the movie's supporters generally say things like "It's not supposed to be brilliant, just turn your brain off and have fun!" Sorry but, "turn your brain off" and "have fun" are directly contradictory. I'm not going to give any movie a break and pretend I'm stupid because it has expensive special FX (not good, expensive).

Anyways, it's sort of a sad statement about entertainment when this quality of movie does so well. It's just encouraging studios to abandon plot and acting in favor of girls bending over and junk blowing up.

Well, I liked it. Not loved it, mind you; the plot could stand some rewriting and streamling. That being said ...

...

...

Am I the only soul in the world who liked the Twins?

No. They kinda reminded me other Gremlin(the monsters, not the cars) Hillbillies...

i personally liked the movie. yeah, the first one was better and the plot was never really explained till most of the movie was over. the stuff the critics fussed about was stuff i didn't care about or found really funny. don't listen to the critics, i say see it for yourself and judge it by your own standards and not by somebody elses. that's just me. and i'm glad they finally did include soundwave!!

CrimsomShade [2009-07-04 03:19:28 +0000 UTC]

I remember thinking "Hey Arcee, Soundwave and Devastator are in this movie! It can't be all bad!"

...The big problems of this movie are easy to see Superfluous scenes and Lack of iconic designs. Most transformers are unrecognizable meshes of metal barely distinguished by their colors. The movie should have been called
"US military:Featuring the Transformers".

Akiriana In reply to CrimsomShade [2009-07-09 19:42:03 +0000 UTC]

but using the military is how they connect the transformers to our world. it's supposed to be set in our time >.> don't you think our world would react the same as they did in the movie?

whether you like it or not, humans were part of the original cartoon.

i disagree with your stuff on the character models too, they are very well done. you should've watched it in Imax, it was much clearer to see all the transformer's details on a huge screen like an imax screen.

CrimsomShade In reply to Akiriana [2009-07-10 19:23:41 +0000 UTC]

The problem isn't that they used the military, its that the military becomes the focus more often than not.And yes I know the series has had several human characters but they never outnumbered or took the spotlight of the Autobots.

And hypothetically speaking if alien robots were to come to earth the worst thing ever would be to have ANY military unit take a hold of their situation it would end in an international incident of catastrophic scale!

Also I still stand by my opinion of the designs, at several times I had trouble telling Megatron and Starscream apart, characters had overly complex faces and very few designs stood out; aside from his wrecking "balls" and mouth Devastator was rather dull looking, Arcee was fugly and Wheelie will forever give me nightmares, Mixmaster was the only really cool looking one in my opinion but he lasted what? 5 seconds on screen?

After well over a decade of Japanese anime garbage being labeled "Transformers", Bay gets all the leeway in the world.

I've only really heard of the Armada/Energon/Cybertron trilogy, if that's what you're referring to.

I don't know if Animated counts as anime.

I watched the sub back when it was being fansubbed a few years ago. So it's not like the shittyness could be blamed on a bad dub.
I'll be here all day if I list what all is wrong with it, but lets just say that it laid the archetype for bad transformers anime for years to come.
Here's some choice complaints.
-Spoilers-
Optimus Prime dies very early on in a very stupid and pointless way.
Hot Rod becomes Prime again...oh goodie.
Magnus is killed in a very stupid and pointless way.
Cybertron blows up, and all the senior Autobot staff(the ones left over from the end of G1) can do is board a shuttle and go "Well we're gonna just like...uh leave now! Bye!"
Even MORE focus on Daniel and Wheelie.
Robots pumping iron?!?
Astrotrain's "I can move along the ground with no tracks" taken to the infinitely stupidest degree.(An entire train, which can also fly!)
Plenty of "This plot point will take many episodes to resolve and be very anti-climactic" moments.

In short...anime!

The scene with the primitive humans made no sense to me. If the 7 primes were the original transformers, then the "fallen" incident should have occurred even before humanity evolved on earth. The human species has only been around for about 2 million years and I'm sure that Transformers history way precedes that.

i really liked this movie it was the best movie i saw this summer loved the action and humor. i dont know why people are always saying "it not like the classic or original"...well duh almost mind you i said almost nothing is as good as the original. the only thing i wish was done was a little bit more screen time for the newer transformers, other than that i was at the edge of my seat and am going to see this movie 3 more times

It's not that the movie had to be G1, it just had to be a good movie, being G1 had nothing to do with why most people hated it, the fact it was a vapid movie that had some extremely juvenile jokes and just poor characterizations among other things.... but it made money so I guess this is what the people want... shame

👍: 0 ⏩: 2

Akiriana In reply to RoyalKnightV [2009-07-09 19:46:37 +0000 UTC]

no its people need to stop going into a movie figuring it'll be exactly like the series it's based off of. (comic book movies get ALOT of anger).

it was a good movie. minus the 6 or seven little scenes that were not necessary..like dogs humping,

gotta remember also, it's rated pg so they're not going to make it overly violent or sharp words.

i watched all the series and liked the movie.

RoyalKnightV In reply to Akiriana [2009-07-09 21:15:07 +0000 UTC]

I didn't expect this movie to be anything like the G1 cartoon, if anything aside from the sex and juvenile humor it's almost like the old toon, nonsensical and an excuse for action, if anything I would want the movies to be like the comics, which usually have great stories!

I personally could not care less if the movie follows the G1 toon, it doesn't translate well as it wasn't written to be anything more than a toy commercial, except for a few which did try to expand the mythology.

Still it wasn't a good movie, but people liked it, and it made money so I guess that's all you really need.

Actually isn't the flick rated PG-13, that still doesn't mean you have to have unnecessary swearing which this movie has a lot of... but which series did you like? You mean the G1 cartoon?

and while comic books fans do get a it uppity sometimes, they are right when it comes to movies like Wolverine Origins, which had a lot of characters in name only like Deadpool.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Akiriana In reply to RoyalKnightV [2009-07-10 14:14:18 +0000 UTC]

Ya the story was a bit weak.

yea the swearing is a bit ... much, especially for pg-13, if they wanted to make it a bit more realistic, they should've had blood and rated it pg-14.

G1 cartoon, (the original), beasties, beast wars, and beast machines. i didn't much like the brand new ones that just came out, kinda dumb.

I actually liked Wolverine origins as well, even though the deadpool part upset me since Weapon 11 was wolverine's son, not deadpool. And how they're going to do a deadpool movie is beyond me now.

They tried to take a story that doesn't exist and make it believable which is Wolverine's past. And it was, but they should've kept some characters out of it if they weren't planning on doing them right (i.e gambit, deadpool).

Now the comic book movies i disliked were the first Hulk movie, spider man 3, and x-men 3. Also Electra, Cat woman, and Daredevil ( i love daredevil, but this movie was crap).
Those are the 6 i hated the most because they got terrible actors for electra, daredevil, cat woman and hulk; and x-men 3 and spider man 3 were completely dumb..especially emo peter parker. He shouldn't be so whimpy anymore, spider man wasn't this wimpy for so long.

RoyalKnightV In reply to Akiriana [2009-07-14 18:11:45 +0000 UTC]

Wolverine.... was just a mess, not as bad as 3 but not good, so many characters out of character and plot holes and adamantium bullet induced amnesia.

Actually the there is an origin story for Wolverine, they followed some parts... but then the movie just wanted action and nothing else... and it feels forced here, especially tying Cyclops into the movie, why doesn't he recognize him? Doesn't matter I guess.

Well at least HULK tried to be philosophical... but it failed by being not well made...\

Pg-14? ajajajajaja funny, but why didn't they just make an action movie, with a good plot, fantastic but grounded in reality? They could have done much with the Transformers... but I guess Bay is too busy drooling over Megan Fox, and apparently it seems she got the job for the first flick by washing one of Mr. Bays cars.... classy

RoyalKnightV In reply to chazmarin16 [2009-07-07 05:23:35 +0000 UTC]

Eh the humor was just too juvenile for me, I didn't find them particularly offensive, just tired old stereotypes too old to be really offensive but a reminder that they can still be used for comedy.

They were annoying but they weren't in it as much as I thought they would be, so I don;t like them but they aren't as bad as I thought they would be.

they had great editing in the second one what are you talking about?

being an animator/modeler myself...i was impressed they did better at not chopping off half an autobot in shots in the second... in the first all the panned shots were chopped off autobots, it was annoying, i wana see the whole robot damn it!

they did better in the second movie.

Animation wise? I didn't like the designs but everything was really well animated and looked real, as real as it can anyway.

Personally, I liked the movie quite a bit. It may have helped if I read a review before watching but the Valley Advocate paper that usually has the reviews didn't have anything on TF2 the very day it came out so I was pretty much watching it not knowing what to expect.

I didn't think the story was too bad and Jetfire's motive for defecting was so obvious that I'm surprised no other Decepticons other than Wheely thought of it as well. Bumblebee totally owned in this sequel but Skids and Mudflap were even more irritating than Frenzy in the first movie. About my biggest beef with the movie was its overuse of bathroom humor, sexist images of college girls and women in general, Sam's mother, and overuse of shaky camera angles.

yea i hate the shaky camera angles too, but at least it didn't have cut off autobot scenes like the first one did. D: a lot of shots was missing half the autobot lol

i disliked all that bathroom humor, megan fox getting her leg humped, sam's mother and sam running around with his pants down. it was dumb those lil scenes.
