Hi Michael -
Got your msg today - 11/21/06 - a few days later for me for sure, but I've been swamped meeting art deadlines - sooooo, better late than never. I really appreciate your help - I did read some query on FracFan, someone else was as lost as I was - thank goodness I'm not alone in that "state." Then I also remembered doing this very routine with another tut a while back - oh, how quickly the mind gets clogged with all this stuff and we "forget" how we did something. But then again - I am a Blonde - sooooooo - lol
Again, thank you for your help and for all these terrific tools you make for we Apo addicts out here - you'll never know how much you are loved for your generosity of sharing. And for all the brain work you do working on this stuff - I'm a pretty good artist, but this techie stuff - arrrrrrgh - kills off brain cells just trying to wrap my mind around how to go about programming...scripting, whatever!
You guys are the greatest!
artfully speaking,
fractalista

I've yet to play with this, but I agree that some more specific values could help those of us who are less experienced understand the process you wen't thru to acheive the finished result.

the purpose of this tutorial is to get people to explore, learn, and try new things. The purpose is not how to make 'disc spirals'. i think specific values would be counter productive.
there are many resources available to beginners and intermediate users that you may want to check out first.

I'm sure it's a nice tutorial..but when I tried it I got nothing but a couple little dots on my screen. Oh well..guess I'll try some more.

yup, try again. You probably have a transform with no variations, or forgot to add blur to the blur transform

Yep I got it figured out. Got the disc shape and what not. Had the blue set to the wrong transform haha...gonna mess with it more. Thanks for the tutorial

Hey there? This is a wonderful tutorial and I fully intend on trying it out!!
But I have a completely newbie question to ask of you. Rendering... I've not been able to find an explanation on how to save the images I create. I've made one or two I've been proud of and had to scrap them because I don't know how to save them in a format I can use.
... could you maybe tell me where I'm going wrong? I'd be eternally grateful!

MichaelFaber In reply to Foxxie-Chan [2006-10-12 01:14:38 +0000 UTC]
Hello Foxxie,
to make an image file (jpeg, png, bmp) you need to render. the render to disk button is a yellow/orange gear icon near the top left of the main apophysis window. you will get a window that pops up to ask you what resolution, quality, and where you want to save it to. rendering will take a while, depending on what resolution and quality you set.
this tutorial is ment to be for advanced users, if you want other resources to try, there is a huge list here [link] to get you started Have fun!

Very nice. After I render I will have some examples to show. I snuck in a fan transform too and that did some cool things.

Yay! I tried it. Here's the results...Burnished [link]
I have a problem knowing what proportions of each variable to use (I know it shouldn't be the same every time, but I can also see that some ratios don't work at all) so it may not look at all like you intended. But I learned a lot and that's what matters!
Thank you!

ooooo wow! a tutorial!
except I'm obviously not clever enough with Apophysis to use it LOL I theoretically understand everything, but when I stop the linear aspect and apply some disc, I get nothing like you do! This is a very different way of using Apophysis for me, I taught myself a completely different (and probably utterly simplistic) way. I'll keep perservering!

Michael thanks for this tutorial. I too have to say though that it is a little vague. More screen shots would be helpful. Is the spiral variation supposed to be used here as well? I really do appreciate your willingness to share your wonderful talent with all of us.

I like the way you made the tutorial, it gives a person the freedom to create their own flame and not just copy something you made. very nice job.

It's a little bit too vague. I mean, I really don't like the tutorials that are like exact to three decimal points, but this was a little too vague for me to get anything interesting out of it. :/

Great tut, but erh... i think i followed the tut, but i couldn't get anything that even remotely looked like your example you used... only a disc-like figure with 2 or 3 whirly kind of lines going out (and that on 2 triangles, and 1 FX triangle... the way you described it, right?)

Looks like a pretty good tutorial, not very clear on all the steps though.
I'll try to see what I can get out of it, even though i've been on a roll with not using tutorials or scripts lately.
Thanks for posting it!
