Description
This is a thankyou to all my watchers. After 3 years being asked to make a tutorial, it's finally here lol. Yeah a bit late and everyone has probably advanced past this tutorial level, but i hope it helps some artists nevertheless.I don't enjoy lineart so I'm using this recent one [link] and re-coloring it different from the original.
This is my full process of coloring lineart. I don't always use this process, but these were the same steps i used when coloring the original which can be seen here: [link]
It didn't turn out as well as the original, but i rushed it as much as possible cause i just wanted to focus on the process and it's the 2nd time to color the same thing. This took me about 6 hrs straight to fully write up and color so i apologize for spelling, grammar or just not understandable cause i haven't double-checked.

Biggest tip I got from this awesome tutorial is that you should put your line-art on Multiply at the very top, cause I've been putting it at the bottom at Normal whilst all my color layers are added on top at Multiply, a revolution, because before this you can imagine how many problems I had with backgrounds. I did the same exact thing when I use line-art for a deviation. I can never probably create something fully detailed like the image in the tutorial, but at least it helps me to improve on my art.

I can't get the selcted areas of the clothing design i've selected in one layer, that's probably because
i use the polygonal lasso tool, i dunno other ways to select stuff, someone said something about quikmask.. is that it??

this is one of the best tutorials i have seen so far but i have a question where it the flood tull, is it fill [Shift F5], and if it is i filed the background lair but its not showing what m i doing wrong

In that first step is that sketched with a pencil or done with ink?

That was in pencil, i just cleaned it up in photoshop and set the levels to make it black.

how do you split each section into a layer like skin hair clothes

Add a new layer, Ctrl+Shift+n is the hotkey.

yes but how do you get only the hair in that layer or the clothes etc

Draw hair in one layer, clothes in another layer. If you meant coloring without going outside the hair then you lock transparent pixels for that layer which can be seen at step 2.2 on the layers window.

I actually have a question, if its no trouble, can i get a psd of this version, for further looking into, and get some of the brush details, when you said airbrush and such, i only know hard, and soft brushes

new question, for part 3, I have a problem getting the lighting there correct, and getting it nice and smooth in transition between color

Wow.. ur coloring is amazing. I have the same style as urs, which is having each layer to a spesific part, but i still can't paint as smoothly as u can. I mean, i have to use more layers again set to 'Clipping Mask' to create the shadows (soft light) & highlight (screen) to each layer/part. What do u think about my approach? Do u have any input? I really appreciate it if u do.

Different approaches work fine, it pretty much comes down to what you prefer. I usually add clipping mask layers to add color when i'm painting on 1 layer in gray scale.

u can paint in grayscale?? Sorry.. i don't have any real foundation in Photoshop.. every thing i just learned by myself by trial & error & a little bit of senses D
