"Demon's Domain"
Software used: Vue Infinite 6, Poser Pro, Hexagon 2.5 & Photoshop CS3
In the spirit of fantasy and role playing games, I wanted to derive inspiration from Guild Wars, Diablo, World of Warcraft, Oblivion, and Advanced Dungeons & Dragons to arrive at a composite piece that embodied elements of all those games. You can see a little mix of each in here as I'm a hard core gamer at heart and thrive on those worlds and themes to perk up my imagination. The portal I modeled in Hexagon and is kind of a mix between Diablo and Oblivion I suppose you could say, but I wanted it more demonic and imposing looking, so I have horns sticking out and a metallic frame with spikes and whatnot. The character can be deduced from a number of elements including Countess and the succubus from Diablo and perhaps a mix of other things, as well. The horns on the character were made by our very own ~UweG ; stop by his page and say hello and have a look around!
I'm not too sure if I will scare off my watchers with this or not, but it's all in good fun really! I'm do not study demonology or worship the devil or study the occult or practice Satanism, I just like fantasy themed art and try to portray and depict these subjects and themes into my work. This scene took me about a week on and off because I have been studying digital painting and wrestling with that whole sack of mice, but put this together in my spare time so I don't get rusty! I hope you enjoy this madness and there will be MOAR coming very soon! Stay tuned!

Fantastic. I feel the need for some hellish spawning here.

My only tip would be your attitude towards your work, with the whole "I hope I don't scare off" etc.
I'm unsure if you were joking, but on the chance you weren't...
First off, don't worry about your watchers. Get input if you need it or if you're stuck on what to do next or what they want to see, but your art should be for you. Something you can be proud of- which you should be.
Second, if anyone would be so thick as to not enjoy such marvelous artwork just because of a little fire, or a scary theme. Then they know nothing about art in the first place.
and finally, show confidence. Your personal interests, ideals or beliefs should not impact the watcher, unless they impact your art. For instance, I have my beliefs and many of the people who even share SOME of them could be offended by the specifics, which I do let flow into my art. And I couldn't give a fuck if I tried. Their problem.
Sorry if I sounded offensive or preachy. But I hate to see good artists lack confidence.
Oh, your gallery is magnificent, fyi.

Well, I must say that I have been part of a couple online communities for about 5 years; this being my final exclusive stop for quite awhile. I don't think I've ever had such an interesting, honest and candid comment like this before...and I've had some good ones over the years! I do have a sarcastic sense of humor when regarding myself I suppose and some of the things I type are of circumstances and experiences here and beyond.
I'm still feeling out DA in general as opposed to other places that know me much better and I'm not sure what to expect here quite yet. I do put countless hours into each piece until I reach the verge of insanity and I'm content with it for the most part. I do find that sometimes after hitting the submit button, things can change and all of a sudden my perspective of things can go either way. I can study and proof an image for 3 days pixel by pixel and as soon as I publish it, I will start to notice errors and problems! Really bizarre!
But I do hear what you are saying and that I should stay true to my vision and not be concerned if anyone else will like it or not. The next one will be strange and I'm taking twice the normal time on it for that reason. I like to stay uniform with my gallery, but I need to expand quite a bit, as well. The constant balancing act for me it seems.
Your words are quite inspirational and make me rethink my approach to things that might allow me to cut loose more and be riskier with things. I've also been learning digital painting after all these years and I almost need a shrink with that stuff more than a teacher! LOL! But I really appreciate you taking the time to lend me your views! Thanks also so much for the 's and
as it's encouraging to say the least!

Haha, well, good luck there. And thank you. I think you'll find DeviantART to be a good "community" to operate in, occasionally you'll get someone with more negative things to say than anything. But for the most part, we've got a lot of supportive and helpful people here. But yes, I know how that "It's perfect until it's out in the world" feeling is. I can look back in my gallery to my old poems that I thought were so awesome and quite literally gag at them. Hah.
Cheers mate.

Well, most will agree here that I am crazy so that is par for the course! LOL!! I am migrating to 2D from 3D and just now learning digital painting and whatnot and it's a huge curve for me. I want to do things like this and even more detailed in 2D and you can see the long road I have ahead of me! I see the detail and techniques you employ in your work and I really admire the artistry and crafting that goes into that completely! But...I am honored you like this anyway and thank so much for the ! I still consider this a warm up prelude for what I would like to do in the future given about 150 years more practice! LoL!

Yeah, those were some great memories indeed! I spent a huge amount of time in Diablo 1 - 2 and have reached the conclusion that it was one of the best series of PC games ever made. I hope D3 will be good and have the same atmosphere and game play, but time will tell! Thanks for the nice comment and the visit!

She's does kind of have that "I'll swallow your soul" look in sort of a first date type of fashion. And believe me, I probably dated her at one point in time! I'd like to get her in some sort of battle fighting something with flaming skeleton minions backing her up, but I'll need a new computer for that (re: Spam crisis). A nice isometric view would be nice for that...I have to work on perspectives more cause I keep taking the say way out.

I wouldn't even know where to start with prints. The max resolution I have is the one I posted which is 1600x1200. That wouldn't print very large at all...perhaps the size of a postcard! I need a better computer to render things out at a much higher resolution for that. This thing just about dies doing what I make it do already.

I really like this one - not only because I'm a RPG gamer at heart as well, but because I love the colours here, and the way the set-up just draws the eyes to the figure.
And the portal just makes me squee "Secret Cow Level".

Haaaaa! Secret Cow Level! You know, I just found out this week that someone hacked my Diablo 2 account and stole all my characters with all my loot! So...hopefully D3 will have better security cause I'm not going through that again! I really do love color and for some reason I do more red scenes than anything. It's not even my favorite color, but most of them end up that way. I really need to change that! Thanks so much for the comment and the
and let's hope Diablo 3 is gooooooooood!

Oh man, that sucks.
I only played DII via 'home network' with my husband and friends, so I never experienced that problem - but I would be mad!
And I so cannot wait for DIII - it looks so cool already.
Red makes for very intense settings as a background colour, so I think there's no harm done using it. But if you'd like a change of scenery, why not try green for a change? I like green.

Yay! Diablo 3 is coming...sometime in the next few years. LOL! My Battlenet account was just hacked last month and they took about 16 characters stuffed with high end stuff! Yay! I love that game to pieces, but they had better put better security in place next time! And that 3 month deletion period has got to go, too. Guild Wars doesn't delete anything ever and D3 shouldn't, either! I'm not sure of the art direction in D3 as it looks like WoW to me...I was hoping for something darker, but it should be fun in the end anyway! Thanks for the comment and the visit, I really appreciate it!

Hey, this worked really well! I saw the Oblivion reference instantly, it really seems like the daedric realms in many ways. The other references I can pick up now as well, after reading the comment. By AD&D you wouldnt happen to mean Baldur's Gate would you? It looks a bit like the expansion really, when you have to wander around in one of the hells and worry about turning into the slayer

MythArcana In reply to Morgalahan [2009-05-24 19:31:14 +0000 UTC]
Since Baldur's Gate references the official AD&D rules, then sure! Whatever they have going on in that game could apply, as well! I played that game many, many years ago and don't remember too much...just the fact I never did finish it. LOL! I suppose nearly any fantasy role playing game worth it's weight in salt has some kind of parallel world of Hell in one for or another. I can't really think of one that doesn't to be honest. Thanks for the nice comment and the visit!
