I'm definitely mixing things up a bit here in my gallery and posting a little of this and that with no apparent order of things, but I'm trying to strike a balance between subject matter. I don't want to give the impression that all I do is pretty and cute stuff because that is not the case and I like to play on the dark side just as much! This is Another older scene that was completely reworked and tweaked and remains one of my favorites.
I went through so many revisions of this scene trying to get it right that I must have created it five times over and finally had to settle and move on. The character actually does have six posable arms and was fun to put together...and we shall see more of her later on and much closer, too! All together this took me about a week of setting up the scene and 8 million test renders and setting up the character and then the final render which took forever. I know it's not perfect, but I got it as close as I could without going completely insane in the process! I hope you enjoy this piece and there is much MOAR coming very soon!

That was version 1.0 I did for a Halloween contest several years ago. I put the whole idea away and realized later just how much work I put into creating that 6 armed character and went to revisit it again about 2 years ago. I recently reworked some things on it again and posted it here on DA.

Sepultuuuuuraaa! 2nd time I randomly come across a deviation with a sepultura-title, it's always great. Googling however, makes me realize you might have gotten it from Celtic Frost. Whatever, end of my totally unnecessary and random input.

Yes, you win a cigar! It's was Sepultura's cover of that song that fueled this and I listened to it quite a bit through the creation of this for inspiration. I have not heard the Celtic Frost version however...perhaps I will find it in my travels.
One interesting note; three guys that used to roadie for Celtic Frost eventually formed their own band named Coroner. They are one of my all time favorite bands (disbanded years ago) and are extremely cool. They are also listed on my profile page along with Soulfly (Max's spinoff band).

Yeah, I'm a big game fan and I suppose a lot of that comes out in my work! Perhaps I should just concentrate on Guild Wars or WoW characters and do commissions instead of killing my CPU every time I have an idea! LOL Thanks so much for the comment and the visit!

I tend to experiment too much with everything I do and that is why it takes me so long to get anything done! I definitely agree that it's nice to mess around with things to get it as far from normal as possible! Your work really blows me away and I only wish I could draw and paint like that! I'm just now learning digital painting and I must say it's very challenging at this stage! Thanks for the nice comment and for stopping by!

I get a little crazy on colors and I even toned them way down on this one. Same thing with lights I guess cause I have like 22 point lights in that scene. Thanks so much for the nice comment and for stopping by, I really appreciate it!

I'm a crazy one...don't mind me any! I have some cute stuff, some wicked stuff, some pretty stuff...but I keep it all G rated at least. That's always been one of my standards anyway. I suppose a couple might go PG, but that's it! Thanks so much for the comment and for stopping by, I really super duper appreciate your time!

I must say that I am amazed that my computer didn't blow up trying to create this! The thing is like 6 years old and still going strong! God Bless Intel! I do try to pack as much as I can in there and sometimes I ended up pulling things out for that same reason. I spent a couple days reworking this whole thing and made a lot of subtle adjustments that made it look more pronounced. The older versions are too dark and muddy-looking as the techniques I was using at the time kind of killed it. Hopefully this is a vast improvement, but it seems more intelligible to me now and not as flooded with saturation. Thanks so much for your kind words and for stopping by, I really apprecaite it!

Yeah, I'll say. Lately I've been really putting some time into digital painting and did my first human last night with line work and blocking, and when it came time for coloring...I flopped around and really froze up! I certainly don't want to end up making cartoons, although I would fit in more here if I did (lol), but talk about a learning curve! I guess that is why I got into 3D in the first place being a frustrated drawer or painter. I can use a ruler, but my freehand is for the birds! I suppose I'll just work on an occasional 3D scene and just keep practicing until something looks good enough to upload!

Yes, it does! I paint a little of this and there here and there, but to do something full blown 100% 2D from scratch is some tricky business! I need help with blending and shading and even with all the great tutorials here, hopefully something will just snap in my head soon! LOL

There's something about green fog that promotes a sense of mystery and chaos. I suppose it is the same in photography, as well. Green lighting on subjects makes them look sick and unhealthy and I suppose I was shooting for some sort of evil force spewing up from the cauldrons as she arises from this alter to go cause some trouble! Thanks so much for the nice comment and for stopping by!

Nice work on the tangled thorns. The six arms pleases me for reasons I've described - I think it's your facial structure, and the way the individual things are vivid, and they all sort of... combine together in a strangely surreal way. Don't ever go for more realistic than this, 'k? It'd lose the vivacity.

MythArcana In reply to Schemilix [2009-05-09 20:58:18 +0000 UTC]
I worked a long time of this and had several different versions. I think I changed everything around 5 times before I decided to stay on this. It is funny you mention realism cause I really don't do that at all. I do have a couple works that are close to realism, but that is not what I try for. I guess it is just my style that I am stuck with! Thanks so much for the kind comment and for stopping by, I really appreciate it!

Schemilix In reply to MythArcana [2009-05-09 21:15:22 +0000 UTC]
No problem - and it's good you don't go for realism. You have this peculiar 'not stylised but not real'; thing going on, but it doesn;t look like it's down to not being able to do realism right at all. It's really alive.

MythArcana In reply to Schemilix [2009-05-09 21:18:04 +0000 UTC]
That is interesting you say that cause you are exactly right! I do have some realism works sitting around, but they seem a bit boring to me. I guess stylized would be a good term for it then! Thanks again!

Well, I thank you so much for the nice comment and for stopping by! I must tell you that your work is by far some of the most amazing art I have ever seen, so it is both a high honor and compliment for your nice words! Aha, a new piece today, this is amazing buddy, Man I wouldn't want to mess with her!! or maybe I would, lol. Great lighting and textures, you have some amazing things going on here, I have to sit back and take it all in, wow, I see why it takes so long to render. So do you have to build each piece/object and then place them all on the stage? That's how I do it in lightwave, which I haven't done in years. Great job m'man!!

Well, thanks for stopping by, Robert! I didn't think anyone would even come by the looks of it here. The props aren't mine in this one, but I set them up in Poser and then import them into Vue each piece at a time and then proceed to set things up where I want them. And the lights are probably the most extensive part; there's about 20 point lights and one sun and one spot in this one to illuminate everything. Wherever you see a candle, there's a point light. Then my trees and grass and all that are setup in Vue and then the tweaking begins. By this time I'm already beat and tired and then look forward to another 8-36 hours of rendering depending on the scene. hehe! Thanks for stopping by and the comment and the
, I really appreciate it!
