Oh sorry. I haven't used gimp in years so I'm not familiar with its features anymore. But you could use a small brush to smudge individual sections of the fur out if gimp has a smudge brush

Dude, this just changed my whole wolf manip making experience! I struggle with the fur hardcore and I think trying this method will really help.
