--overall tips:--1. please don't just smash together the colors of the parents like in the top left!
2. blending + mixing colors helps create an original color scheme!
3. markings are okay if they're used correctly!
4. carbon copies and simple fusions of the two parents are discouraged!
5. deviation from the parents' talents and interests is a good way to go!

I don't think the offspring would be born as an Alicorn if the parent is made one by magic and not by genetics. Β It'll be a mystery on what kind of pony of Cadence and Shining Armor's foal will be until an episode introducing him or her is aired.

my HC is that alicorn-ness and earth pony-ness is recessive, but unicorn-ness and pegasus-ness is dominant.Β
but since Twily wasm't BORN an alicorn, she doesn't carry the alicorn gene.

Right im not hating this is a good tutorial but I dont think coat colours work like that. One of the parents would have to have that colour of coat somewhere in the family history. And same goes for Sweetie Belle's mane, the coat of the mother could not have gone into her mane. Also if you look
closely they aren't even the same colour.
Sorry if this suonds offensive i'm honestly trying my best not to be I just wanted to point those things out

I saw a video once that kinda had the same idea where unicorn magic is the same colour as the cutie mark.

I really love this tutorial and it has been really helpful to me, but I don't think that is how pony eye genetics work, like for example : you have one female pony with light blue eyes and a green coat and a male pony with dark red eyes and a black coat, if they had a foal the foal would have a mix of the parents eyes like with the body the colors can mix, but just not with other colors like the mane or the eyes, so maybe a dark blue or a light red. Maybe I'm wrong I don't those are just my thoughts, anyway the rest was really helpful so thank you!

Any tips for a half pony? Like, I want to design a Discord and Celestia child, but I don't really know how to properly create a child without making it way too pony, if that makes sense? Like, I want to look sorta like Loppiditys Pandora, with the child having a body like Discord, but with changes to the main body and a facial look like the pony, but I honestly have no clue how to really achieve that look

i think if you made a draconequus's main body more curvy and pony-like (and considerably shorter) it would look right. or even if you just elongated a pony base.
also, if you used a princess-esque face like Cadence's it would still look pony but be different!

The way I see it, if an alicorn mates with another pony, the offspring will most likely be the same race as that other pony, as an alicorn is a combination of all three races. For example, if an alicorn or an earth pony mated, the offspring would be an earth pony.Β

Pretty good tutorial! Funny thing is I found this right after I finished making my own. (Which I'm gonna put up as a 30 watch special thing) I don't ever mix the colors, but I do sometimes change how dark or light the color is. I agree with the strange markings on the first being not the best choice. Use markings if they are on the parents, otherwise, leave them out.
But I am sorta guilty of "carbon copying" parents. My Next Gen daughter of Twi looks almost exactly like her, just has Flash's blue rather than Twi's navy blue. Alicorn too. Then again, she was supposed to look like that as a sorta running gag in my sister's and I's roleplay so... Yeah... Her brother's are pretty original though. But I also use Nightlight's, Shining's, and some red for them. Still works I guess. Wouldn't sell designs like those though. I wouldn't pay for them, so why should anyone else? Sorry for the extremely long comment.

Thank you for this wonderful tutorial! It gets very annoying when I see another pinto style pony with a mix of two of the shipping parents colors. The only pony really like that in the show is Pipsqueak. And also, think of Pound and Pumpkin Cake. They have resemblance to their parent but have their own designs too. The only thing I would add is that kids don't really copy their parents mane style, or even really have a mix of it in our world, and they have hair cutters and salons to change their manes in Equestria, so they don't necessarily have to have the same manes of their parents.Β

In one way i totally agree with this but in another it makes me feel sad because my flashlight child is a alicorn with blue wings.
I have reasoning though as i think later on in life twilight will look permanently rainbow powered cause she's an alicorn so she inherited the alicorn and wings and yellow!
I hate splotchy ponies,they make my toes curl, I'm alright with different colour wings but hate any other random patches of colour

Honestly I'm tired of seeing lazy genetic fusions of two pony parents with the main coat colors splotched all over like a pinto. Just about 99% of FlashLight foals I've seen look way too much like your "Sparkle Sentry" example.
