Description
Current haircut, taken for =iamkatia - dropped to b/w and messed with a little in PS (calculations), just for fun.
*edit* - OK, so bowing to pressure and under duress, I am moving this from scraps to my gallery. I don't think it belongs there, but I've been threatened, so I'm doing it. (Though not like a visit from =iamkatia , even if she were going to kick my butt, would be bad!)

I fear it does not suit me as well as you. Plus, I spent the past two years growing it back from very short to shoulder length (my hair grows incredibly slowly).

Whoa. Somehow I missed this in my devwatch. You definitely have to swing by for a shoot sometime. You're gorgeous! I like this photo alot, probably because of your intense and somewhat bemused gaze. That slight smirk is a definite winner. I wish the eyes were more in focus -- it looks like the plantlife behind is in perfect sharpness -- maybe the focus point was set wrong?
Very nice. Love the shoulders and collarbones -- sort of an "Eve in the Garden" feel here. Might be a good shoot for you to pursue!

LOL! Considering I just held the camera out with my hand and shot it at arm's length, I'm not surprised that the focus is a bit off!! I never meant for this to be a deviation, but did this at the request of my friend here. I've been really surprised that this has gotten such a warm reception.

THere is no way a photo like this belongs in scraps. Beautiful b/w shot. So often b/w lacks good contrast and definition and this is gorgeous. Some might say you don't 'pop' off the back ground, but I like how you're emerging from the foliage, it adds a nice complexity to it.

I have a wonderful trick for b/w photos that I learned from someone here. If you want to know it, I'll share it with you! (First I have to look up who taught it to me so I can give them credit....)

I know one good trick that I learned from the publishing world, and that's to play with the curves and saturation so he colors are very contrasty, then remove all of the color. Do you know another trick?

I do! Here it is:
Calculations method from :devDyingNexux: - In PhotoShop, use Image > Calculations (it will automatically convert to b/w if it's not already) and use the blue channel on the blue channel in "overlay" mode. It brings out things in skin that just were not visible at all before, it's amazing. It works better on some photos depending on exposure and other things... Play with that method and different channels and modes. In this piece, I used the red channel over green channel (with green at I think 50%) and "multiply", not "overlay". It does really, really interesting things and can often save an otherwise crappy b/w photo. I also used it here [link] and it worked out really well.
I hope you like this! I was so happy to learn it. I love it that the original guy was willing to share it, so I always enjoy passing it along.

LOL, this is me yesterday, but I did mess with it to get the b/w the way I wanted it. I should put the original in scraps (where this goes!!) so you can see. The original is so less attractive. This one my skin and eyes look so much better. I put it up for Katia because she put up a photo of her mom (who is STUNNING), and we have similar haircuts. She asked to see my hair, so I took this in the backyard. Her original photo was b/w, so I wanted to try to capture the same mood, so I did mine in b/w...
