Description A rather young Phantom wallowing in his own barely bridled rage. This would be during the Persia period of Kay's novel, although, as I like to imagine it, Erik wore a full mask through his youth. As he grew into adulthood, he would have shed the emotional baggage of a full mask, which would be reminiscient of his horrible childhood, and adopted the unconventional half-mask. Therefore, Ta-da! Nutshell explanation, unifying two theories of the mask. let me stress again that this is just what I like to use for reason, not that it's the end-all, be-all backstory.

Thank you. I think that the scarier he looks, the better the story is.

Hot. It's like something out of "The Crow". Funny how they're both named Erik. Except the crow is with a 'c', but whatever. Very well done, and it definitely gets the emotion across. The pose, the eyes...the hair is very nice, and I really like your interpretation of the mask.

I always picture him with a full mask, or at least, with only the mouth showing, sometimes black, sometimes white (there are examples in my gallery if you're at all interested--I'd love to see what you think of my Phan art). The half-mask thing is purekly ALW to me.

Awesome job.

Love Mr. O'Barr's Crow. The art really spoke to me so much more than the movie ever thought about. THanks. Also, I'll certainly check out your stuff. Always great to see another Phan on Deviantart.

GOD, YES, I love you.

I wish I had any talent for drawing realistically; this blows me away. I adore original Erik, and you've captured him so well!

Wow. This is really one of the best Erik's I've ever seen. Very very ugly and scary. Most of the time I find Eriks ugly, but cute or silly or dull or funny, but not scary like this one. That's something often forgotten, isn't it, that he ought to be really terrifying. Great job.

darkphantomprincess In reply to Frouke [2007-12-18 05:39:36 +0000 UTC]

Terrifying, utterly grotesque, and yet, at the same time, terribly sensual and compelling. That's always the vibe I always got from Kay!Erik. THis is an incredibly good portrayal of that.

Opergeist In reply to Frouke [2005-07-22 20:02:18 +0000 UTC]

I agree, part of his charm is that he is terribly and utterly terrifying. That's really what I love about him, the juxtaposition of beauty and the macabre...it's all very poetic to me. Thanks.

Erik always has this haunted and dark look about him, captured perfectly in this image.
You've gone into detail on his face - more detail than most - and the effect makes me envious of your talents.
And thanks for the quick explanation! *laughs*

Stunning art! It's truly an inspiring peice of work.

I love the peircing glare you've given him it seems that he's just walked out of the khanum's chanbers just after she's commissioned him to 'amuse' her with his torture chamber.

The percision and shading of this is beyond anything I've seen - it's so simple but still so complex.
The deformity is great, repulsive, but absolutly great!

Keep it up!

yes, well, I suppose depending on what sort of mask he's wearing, his eyes are usually his most visible facial feature.

the detail on this amazing piece of work featuring our hero, Erik, is simply awe-inspiring. i love the expression and the mood. it expresses so much emotion, yet does not use words.

the mask theory does sound very Erik-ish.

Love the expression on his face - looks like he's about to punjab the viewer for intruding upon a moment of solitude. The coloring is very smooth and atmospheric and your detail for anatomy and foreshortening is excellent.

Thank you. I wanted the impression that it was wet without drawing in Sin City styled rain...because that would promt me to make it a panel in a sequential piece and frankly I barely had enough time to put out a one shot.
