Description I was not expecting to post this one for a bit, but talking to a fellow DAer here, gave me an urge to brighten someone's day....er...night. heheh. Her majesty of the moon Selene. Here she divinely projects the moon so she can check it is all in good order. Rotation , good, Brightness, good. Phase, perfect, Axis tilt, perfect.

Reference comes from the Mausoleum of Pergamon, the famous Athenian red-figure kylix and the Marble Selene frieze in the London Museum (no longer on display). Written reference also comes from Sappho, describing "...Those women who wrap their chests with leather bands and fillets when attentive to the men's steed. Or mounted on horse or wagon...". I also avoided the typical Roman and Wiccan moon crown, which very rarely appears in ancient Greek art. Instead, I went with the ribbons and her Himation, draped as a veil, which is how I have always seen her.   The back shield depicts the Goddesses 2 steeds. The rim art represents the waves of the sea which she has effect on.
