Description: Still considered the North American species of Canis lupus, the American graey wolf is among the largest members of the dog family, within its Eurasian cousin, and the largest breeds of their domestic descendants, dogs. This big dog shared common ancestors to coyotes, red and eastern wolves, as these canids are native to North America. The American wolves are native to few small parts of USA, including New Mexico, Montana and Wyoming, smaller part of Mexico that's close to USA-Mexico border, and they also lived almost all over Canada and Alaska, and the Arctic that's near the north of Greenland. Native Americans see the wolves as creatures served with loyalty, strength, courage, and success at hunting. Do you may think that wolves howl at the moon, eh? The short version is, wolves don't howl at the moon, but they do howl for say "HELLO!" to the others, to defend their territory, or to use the signal to help the pack mates do the hunting. First of the truth, wolves can't kill you, unless they'll defend the territory and/or their puppies, even for a healthy wolf. However, a wolf whose sick from rabies can kill you, so? STAY THE HAY AWAY FROM SICK WOLVES, unless we'll stop them for our self defense. Some of us may see wolves had a reputations as savage and fearful killers, thanks to stories, novels, and movies featured wolves as villains, this may included that half-human, half-wolf whose a monster, the werewolf. The truth is, not all wolves are mean, some are very nice and shy, they lived and hunted in packs. A pack was consisted of up to a dozens of adult and elder wolves of both sexes, few of their puppies, all lead by mating pair of alphas. The two alphas of the pack is more like both king and queen. Not all wolves are grayish, some are colored in tan, blonde, red, black, or almost white. They are among the intelligent predators, which they use numbers of strong individuals to take down large prey, like bison, deer, moose, muskoxen, and rarely wild and domestic horses. Their competitors and enemies, consisted of pumas, black, grizzly, and polar bears, foxes, coyotes, wolverines and even rarely jaguars, and uncommonly other wolves. In the Ice Age, that other competitors are saber-toothed cabbits(Smilodon), terror birds, bulldog bears, and even lions. They can share kills with ravens and even magpies, which ravens are not only the biggest songbirds, but among the birds who hunted in packs.
