Description
The plague doctor. Also Known as Dottore Matteo Matteo is featured in two separate stories as well as me including him in the bionicle world. Therefor I will break down his bio according to each story.Impulse~By head writor , Co-writer and myself: Matteo Is Immortal in the sense that he does not age and disease does not affect him, making him thousands of years old. he hails from the city of Impulse. While he is as old as the city (if not older) he has lived there much of his life but also traveled to many different parts of the world. Matteo Is very cultured, very wise and rather old fashioned. He's seen rise and fall of the primitive technology that lead to the primitive technology that has created the technology of the modern world(which in the world of impulse is futuristic tech to us). He is part of a secret organization of assassins and keepers of order and secrets known as The faceless where he works along side and watches over Pestilus Matteo Is somewhat of a father figure to Pestilus. he has looked over her since she was born and is largely the reason she's become a member of the order. She affectionately refers to him as "beaky." ^_^ he also speaks with an Italian accent.
Matteo is equipped with his cane, which he uses in his work to treat the poor and fend of petty pick pockets and other ne'erdowells. he uses it for light combat when needed. Then he has his "blood letters." Bloodletting was thought to help treat or cure the plague. These are his main weapons when on missions or in serious danger. His blood letters appear as thick red smoke and then materialize into his blades on his arms. His "Intoxication scent" allows him to subtly disable guards or other people stealthily or severely disorient combatants by emitting a pink smoke from his mask. Plague doctors also kept pleasant smelling things like mint, fresh fruit and flower pedals in their masks as a way from catching the plague themselves. is last ability is his most deadly and powerful "the plague." This is a corrosive thick black smoke that he has complete control over its properties. It can corrupt the mind, flesh or both till there's nothing left. he can make it contagious or isolate it to a single victim. However Matteo cannot use this power endlessly or frequently for it is very draining. Matteo has decent speed and strength but advanced stamina. He's pretty spry for being over a thousand years old.
Witching hour~ Creator/writer/artist
In Witching Hour Matteo is somewhat more grounded in reality. Matteo still has his blood letters but they are retractable blades. He still has his intoxication scent but it is created by him, its not an ability or power he himself has. He works with the other plague doctors found in the story to fight Plague and the many other nasty monsters that run about creating trouble and leaving death and suffering in their wake.
Bionicle In bionicle Matteo is a Makuta, but does not work specifically for the brotherhood, but not with the dark hunter guild either. He's more of a freelancer. In this setting he's less on the side of good and more on the side of self interest. he retains all his weapons and powers as in Impulse as well. He is also immune to any darkness or shadow powers and attacks. "Foolish boy, you cannot cast into darkness that which is already astray from the light." Matteo has many enemies and few friends. he's much more cynical and dark here. The best way to be safe from Dottore Matteo is to stay out of is way, and never oppose him or his cause.
This is a more serious take on [link] which I consider a prototype to this version.
EditThis was the first version of Matteo, not counting the prototype. This Version features the very first shoulder design, head design, fingerless hands, the old version of his cane and bad photography

You're welcome. I'll have to check out the video.
By the way, let me see if I have his powers right: Basically he has gas-based attacks and retractable arm blades, depending on the story, right?
By the way, do his gas attacks affect beings who wear gas masks or can become intangible? Just curious.

Cool. I've got one of archimedes unfolding his wings to.
They're smoke based. And the blades are in every story, how they come out is different.
Well his blades could still rip someone apart even if they had a gasmask but I suppose the smoke could be filtered out. The plague smoke may be able to penetrate the gasmask if its powerful enough.

Thanks . Anything you think I could do better with him? I started from the top and worked my way down, by the time I got to the legs I was kind burned out. Plus I had stayed up a full day. Got up, did stuff then when stuff was over I got to working on him.

I suppose those legs aren't the best, but I do notice that they resemble the arms a lot (that was on purpose, right?), which seems to work
Out of interest, how long did it take to make this guy? With my recent more 'serious' MOCs (Niyyan, Unicorn) I take faaar too long for each part... it's like some OCD-ish nagging that makes me want to make each bit perfect before I upload it. Basically I don't want to look back and think, 'What the hell was I thinking?!'.

yeah but parts aren't exactly in steady supply around here. I've got a lot of parts yes but its often like this "I want to this, I need four of those and 8 of those in either (in this case)black or red. Well shit, I've only got 2 of that and 5 of the other in those color, okay what else can I do here?" I'm having to find ways around obstacles like that with my MOCing now. Again, its having a shit ton of parts and almost no way to properly connect any of it. ANd to answer your question, yes it was on purpose. This isn't another one of my overly complex MOCs either, so I guess what I did is fine. But I dunno I just wish there was more I could do to make it that much better. for the legs I did what I could really.
Hmmm I'm gonna guess about 12-15 hours. I was talking to online around 2 in the morning and got off with him and started working and got done somewhere around dinner time, which was 7-8ish. I don't really worry about that. if I go through and change something on the MOC I change the deviation as well. Also it allows people to see the improvements you make and can see what a difference say...a vezon mask as a gas tank and some filling in of gaps makes. For me its about showing my progression to that perfection that you take the time to get to before showing it off. Plus you seem to be able to get there sooner than I can. I've usually got to go through a couple of revisions first. Guess that's just my process.

Wow, less than a day o_o To compare, that little tractor I uploaded a few days ago was built over the course of a weekend. Usually I end up building in short bursts... this is a classic building session: 'Hmm... Well I want to put this heeere.... well that doesn't work.... uhhh...aaaahhhmm..... what if I....? ..... HOLY CRAP IT WORKS GO GO GO PUT THAT THERE AND THIS AND THAT AND oh wait how do I connect that to... damn, stuck again. Oh well, goodnight everyone.'
Yeah. That's why my current one is taking so long Haven't found a good way to make the legs, yadda yadda yadda. It'll come with time.
Your method has merits too though You can really tell where you've improved, especially from looking at older pictures.

Plague-Doc-Matteo In reply to Rahiden [2011-01-07 20:10:55 +0000 UTC]
Yeah I get that problem to or something like this happened to me yesterday with the doc. "Okay I need to fill in this space some how, what can I do?.....oh how about this there, and that to that, GREAT THAT WORKS OUT SO WELL I LOVE IT!. Now to attach the leg again. *sticks leg back on* oh shit, that's in the way of that now, crap, okay, gotta figure this out again." And like we've said, you do stuff with your MOCs I wouldn't with mine. Though I tried a bit of your "rubber band" technique, but in a more traditional way. The shoulders are held together to the body by a rubber band and then his waist articulation is strengthen by two in the same place. Check out to back shot to see.
Thanks. How do you think I've improved? I think mostly seeing what other people have done has given me a slightly different approach to my own MOCs now. But how do you feel I've improved?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
Rahiden In reply to Plague-Doc-Matteo [2011-01-07 23:47:07 +0000 UTC]
xD Rubber bands are usually last-resort connections, though I end up using them far too much x_x Niyyan alone needs three, though they're all worth it.
Well, using Dr. PLAGUE MUAHAHAHA as an example, it's clear to me that you've thought through which piecse go where and the overall shape it would make, while on the prototype you used rather minimalistic 'armouring'.

Plague-Doc-Matteo In reply to Rahiden [2011-01-08 00:28:06 +0000 UTC]
Yeah that's not acceptable to me. You're more focused on getting the parts together, I'm more focused on keeping them together well.
"minimalist armor...YOU KNOW HOW HARD IT WAS TO DO AN ALL GRAY FIGURE?! its not like Ive got loads of armor type parts and limbs and stuff just laying around. I don't know where you got the dark gray thigh armor parts but I don't have any, so that wasn't an option. You went short and stubby where as I went talk and long. The thigh armor, the foot pieces you used to make the hammer and the fists, I've got none of that. I did what I could with what I had. Me doing a gray guy is the ultimate "lets do this, well I don't have the pars so something else has to be done." I really am MOCing on a parts budget over here. I'm freakin lucky to get a canister set every now and again okay? This lack of incoming parts is really affecting my MOCing now. I might as well start throwing together canister fig rehashes because that's about all I could do. Bionicles are one of the few things I enjoy doing in this world and now I can't even do that.

Rahiden In reply to Plague-Doc-Matteo [2011-01-08 12:24:31 +0000 UTC]
Alright, alright, cool xD Guess I shouldn't overestimate your parts budget. It's just that grey is the colour in which no-one specialises, so Lego just decided to slap a piece or two onto almost every set. I feel for you, man =/ If I could make it rain plastic, I would.

Plague-Doc-Matteo In reply to Rahiden [2011-01-09 08:52:06 +0000 UTC]
Its weird and hard to explain my parts dilemma. I'm swiming in bionicle parts weapons and masks Honestly several technic sets and I think I'd be golden. I've got the construction paper and glitter, just not the glue to hold it all together. Then There's some of the newer pieces that I don't have that I've seen people do brilliant work with. Like those panels or rounded ones that lego came out with not too long ago. But any who, budget? What budget? I have no parts budget a budget for parts is nonexistent. I wish I had money for parts and sets. I've got money for nothing. Yeah for a little while there the dark grey was like the foundation color for the canister sets.
Its not just a matter of not having parts. It affects me more than that. Its gotten to the point where I can't do any of the things I love to do that make me happy, music, bionicles, videogames. All but one of my friends is gone. My life just disintegrated.

Yeah. Plague doctors though wore those masks because they like sealed off their face and they put things in the masks that were thought to prevent the plague from being spread to themselves. The many that I saw on google had cloaks or trench coats but I'll have to see about that when i can.
