Description
Got it done on time! I was actually pretty nervous about this one given how it is pretty large (not the biggest but big) and there's tons of effect. I am very happy how it came together, definitely one of my favorites so far. Not to much to say about it besides a description of how the beam struggles work.So more stuff about the fan game, Pokemon Chaos version here if you're interested. If not, then just skip to Red's journal.
Like I revealed in the Psychic Spectacular one, this uses the fighting system from the fan game more so than anything else and there is one of the concepts, the beam struggle. Beam Struggles can occur when two attacks collide (sometimes they just blow up when they collide like what happened during the Jolteon battle). They get into a stand off while the two players try to overwhelm the other. They do this by tapping any button, but it's not necesarilly the guy who presses the button faster that wins (though that can help quite a bit). Every time the button is pushed, they send a surge of power down to the beam. The faster the pokemon itself is, the quicker the button tap is registered in the beam struggle. here Charizard actually has an edge there due to Mewtwo being paralyzed (Paralysis can't interrupt a beam struggle). On top of that, a formula is run when the beam struggle begins to determine how many bonuses they get. The bonuses make each tap of the action command stronger by 15%. A few of those things: +15% if the attack being used trumps the attack of the opponent's (hydro pump vs Fire blast for instance), +15% if the user's attack has a higher power, +15% if the user has a higher attacking stat (respective for the move they're using), +15% if the move is the same type as the user, +15% if the beam struggle starts closer to them and 15% bonus if the user is slower than the opponent. Here Mewtwo got 4 bonuses and Charizard would got only 1, so Mewtwo came out on top here. Beam struggles don't go on forever and will detonate if they go on to long (the explosion can do damage if one of them is caught in it). You can also choose to disengage from a beam struggle, but in doing do, the other guys consumes your attack instantly and becomes more powerful. Beam struggles can occur with non beam attacks and some physcial attacks too, shadow ball, energy ball, Stone edge, and Flare blitz can make them happen too.
Anyway that's that. The only other thing to mention, that beam thing Mewtwo keeps using. That is one of the new moves called Psycho Cannon. I was wondering if anybody was going to ask about it, that's what it is. It's basically a psychic type version of Hyrdo pump, high power but lowered accuracy. Not much else to say about it. Mewtwo has used psychic too, it's what he does when he pushed Charizard and Jolteon away from him. Though he's never used a full powered one, Solar did in Solarshadow though when he tosses Drake away. So yeah, more game stuff. Wanted to use the game's mechanics to make the comics a little more unique and personalized. Don't know when a demo of the game will come out, hopefully sometime next year.
Hope you enjoy!
Red's Journal: Picking a Starter
I woke up eager and excited. I hadn't really slept that night at all. Becoming a Trainer was something I wanted to do since I was little. The youngest you can be to start is 10, though typically most people don't start till they're about 16 since you need to take a test in order to get a license to train pokemon, and it's pretty involved. Most younger people have a difficult time with it. Not me though. I dreamed of becoming the Indigo League Champion, and there had never been a champion as young as I was, so I wanted to be the first. I had a lot of help from Professor Oak, he was a real idol to me. Though it did bring me into conflict with his grandson, Blue.
Blue was a snarky guy, he and I had been fighting for the same goals for years. Blue always managed to be a step ahead of me though. There was another person wanting help from the professor a lot too, her name was Leaf and she became an assistant at his lab. When the test was handed out to get a license, Professor Oak promised that anyone who got a perfect score would get a rare Pokemon from his lab of their choice. Blue, Leaf and I all got 100% when we took it, and I went to the lab proudly. Leaf and Blue were there too, Blue and I fought all the way inside, we almost ran the professor over. Professor Oak had three Pokeballs on the counter. They contained Charmander, Squirtle, and bulbasaur. We played rock paper scissors to decide who would pick first. I managed to win first choice, Blue picked second, Leaf last. I decided to take Charmander, I was drawn to the little guy. Blue picked Squirtle and Leaf took bulbasaur. Charmander and I would become close friends and he would become my most trusted team mate.
