Thanks! I just checked it out. Helped a great deal more. Though I have a question, how actually do u get a thick in the middle of the stroke and at the ends it just tapers off? I have my shape dynamics checked in my Brushes presets and everything too. Hmm.

ARGH...!

Sorry. XD You're the third person to ask me this is twenty-four hours, and I think I know the causes, which are in no way your fault. XD

First, are you using CS4?
Second, are you using Vista?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

bsienk In reply to Popo-Licious [2010-10-18 03:05:59 +0000 UTC]

CS3 and yes. Merrr. Also my stroke paths after I make them keep disappearing or moving off the layer I initial put them on. Do you know why?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Popo-Licious In reply to bsienk [2010-10-18 13:42:41 +0000 UTC]

Oh! Well... That's a surprise. I'm using CS3 as well. Generally, people come to be with CS4 problems. XD

Are you using a tablet? If you're using only a mouse, whether or not you have pen pressure will vary. Some people claim that they can get pen pressure with a mouse, some can't. Unfortunately, if you're using a mouse, I'm not much help.

When you open up the brush pallet and you go to shape dynamics, next to the 'pen pressure' drop down, is there a little 'warning' triangle?

And finally, if you're using a tablet, what type is it, and have you updated/installed all your drivers?

(I'll handle the paths/layers issue after we deal with the first issue.) XD

I'm using a wacom intuos4. There isn't any warning. and everything is updated. I think its actually working fine now. I closed and opened photoshop. I only get pen pressure using my tablet.

I see. Well sometimes you just need to restart the program or your computer. Glad it's working!

I'm having some troubles with the photoshop pen tool. Whenever I try to hold control and shape my line, the control button instead brings out a drop down menu, with options like delete path and delete anchor point. (I'm on a laptop if that makes any difference) Please help me if you could, it would be much appreciated.

I'm using a laptop as well, so that's not it. XD

Hmmmmm... I'm going to guess that you're setting aren't correct. Double check that everything selected/circled in the first step is the same as what's selected in your workspace. :3

Make sure that:

+ You have a tablet

+ You've checked off 'simulate pressure'. :3

Hmmm... What version of PS are you using? Also, when you open up the Brush Pallet, click on Shape Dynamics and make sure that it's set to Pen Pressure.

I keep hearing about this problem with CS4. Seriously. You're like the fifth or sixth person to tell me that you're lacking pen pressure, and I honestly don't know how to help because I use CSIII. Let me see if I can find some info on this issue... >o<

Popo-Licious In reply to Popo-Licious [2010-10-16 04:47:15 +0000 UTC]

Alright. Let's get down to business. :3

Are you using Vista? If so, go to the Windows control panel, access the 'Pen and Touch' menu under the Hardware menu, and uncheck the box that says 'Use flicks to perform common actions.' I have this selected on my laptop and it doesn't appear to be giving me any trouble in CS3, but I hear that this can alter tablet performance in CS4.

If this doesn't work, make sure your tablet drivers are up to date. (What sort of tablet are you using? Lower quality/off-brand tablets may not have the capabilities to be responsive in PS.)

Well, it should say right on it what brand it is. XD I'm going to guess Wacom. Yes?

Kaiserinthedragoness In reply to Popo-Licious [2010-10-17 02:16:35 +0000 UTC]

no its Adesso it only needed the drivers so i could use the Macrokey manager that came with it to customize the pen pressure ^.^

Really great tutorial. It looks like it would take a lot of time to ink something though

But the lines look so nice ;_;

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Popo-Licious In reply to elexti [2010-10-01 02:09:35 +0000 UTC]

It does take longer, but look at it this way: the time you spend erasing and redrawing lines by hand is put towards getting them right the first time with the pen tool, so in some ways, it works out. :3
