Description It seems that I forgot to put something in the tutorial so I'll put it here in this box lol and edit the tutorial a bit. To those who don't have ELIMINATE WHITE, here's the link for you to download it: [link]

When downloaded, just simply install it (I believe my brother said that it's a plug-in for any Photoshop so yeah)

To those who are comfortable using other methods of eliminating the white of the layer, you - er - well, don't need to follow what I do.

Okay I am starting to sound stupid right now. Sorry. I admit that there are faster ways of cleaning the lineart but all I wanted to say through this tutorial is that if you don't like your lineart to look rough (I mean you don't like the edges of the lines - bumpy-looking edges in my opinion), you can do what I do.

The last part of the cleaning is time-consuming especially if the lineart's really detailed. But if it's simple, it won't be as wasteful as you think it will be.
.
.
.
So um, it really depends on you guys if you want to do this method that I use. I'm rambling right now. Sorry again.

To those who put this in the favourtes, thank you. (I feel really embarrassed at the moment for some reason >.<)

....wwwwooooooow~~ This makes the the whole 'cleaning lineart' thing look really easy!! I guess it was best to use a dificult peice to demonstrate on if a person has a difficult one to work with (and having it be Hetalia, my current obsession~ XD; ) But maybe ut the lineart in the description so that those who are curious can look, and since most of the stuff I submit is usually sketches and things of the sort, I think this will really come in handy~

Thank you very much for the awesome tutorial! And I might want to color the lineart too, btw~ ;3

Hey, thanks for this! I had never heard of the eliminate white filter before However, to make it work for later versions of Photoshop I think you have to download a file called MSVCRT10.dll as well (at least I had to, using CS4) and put it in your Photoshop folder.

red-jello04 In reply to hopelessromantic23 [2010-06-10 13:08:01 +0000 UTC]

that is really a good question. I just let my brother do all that jazz. I know clicked it, then there's this more stuff he had to do. Um wait - he said the plug-in has to be saved in the adobe file plug-in and then open photoshop and there you can install the plug-in.

that's what he said anyway. sorry if that's all I can help.

Question: how long does it take you to clean up your lineart like this? Just wondering ^^

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

red-jello04 In reply to xxblah-girlxx [2010-05-09 13:37:53 +0000 UTC]

If there's too many details (like this one) well, it'll take around 10-12 hours really (though I think it'll be shorter if I did it quickly and not be soo slow at it)

so if I clean this continuously, I guess the amount of time will be 8-9 hours. I was sort of lazy of cleaning this so it took me longer (I should be ashamed of myself)

darn, my ps7 doesn't have the eliminate white filter D:

The polygon tool was great but I like going over free handed with the eraser

👍: 0 ⏩: 2

HamsterMasterSamster In reply to Takesu [2010-05-09 11:12:50 +0000 UTC]

You can also do it without downloading anything ^^

When you've scanned your picture into PS7, make a copy of the scan layer just in case you get it wrong to start with, and select it. Go to the Channels window and click that dotted-line circle button at the bottom of the pane (Load Channel as Selection). Push the delete key and VOILA, white is gone!

It's an optional step, but afterwards if you create a grouped layer above your clean lineart and just floodfill it in black, then merge the group, it can strengthen the lineart where the channel selection was a bit enthusiastic.

All of this takes, like, a minute :3 It's the only method I use.

I forgot to mention that this is also for people who don't lineart their lineart look rough so yeah, the long and tedious process of removing the edges to make it smoother-looking.

Sorry if I sound confusing or anything. I'm not exactly good at explaining >.<

👍: 0 ⏩: 0

red-jello04 In reply to HamsterMasterSamster [2010-05-09 15:18:31 +0000 UTC]

true but it won't get all of it. I tried other ways and they vary depending on the lineart.

Takesu In reply to HamsterMasterSamster [2010-05-09 13:10:31 +0000 UTC]

yea, I do do the channel way, but I was just looking for less steps to clearing it

👍: 0 ⏩: 0

HamsterMasterSamster In reply to HamsterMasterSamster [2010-05-09 11:14:28 +0000 UTC]

Oh, though I forgot to mention, it's still worth following this guide first to clean up the scanned image and make sure the contrast between the black of your lines and white of your paper is as clear as possible.

red-jello04 In reply to Takesu [2010-05-09 05:21:05 +0000 UTC]

Well, free-handed tool seemed harder with only just a mouse. Unless you have a pen tablet...*wants one*

Cleaning the lineart is the most time-consuming part in the whole process lol.

Takesu In reply to red-jello04 [2010-05-09 13:09:24 +0000 UTC]

oh. (i do have a tablet ) poly is a great way if you use only a mouse. I remember doing linearts in mspaint with it xD;

yeah. that was the reason for this tutorial xDDD - for people who don't have and can't afford to have a pen tablet.

I envy you :3
