Description A chart/graphic for my portfolio cause I really needed an example of that. This was really fun to work on.
The purpose is to tell what parts of an hunted animal is used or consumed, but also which kind of meat comes from which part of the body(in general.)Β

Je mag alleen grofwild jagen voor beheer... Dan moet je een afschotvergunning hebben van de overheid.

I saw this and couldn't resist clicking it. I come from a family of hunters, but I never really bothered to learn much about what part of the dear is cooked in which way since I don't exactly see myself hunting or cooking the dear any time soon. Also,Β I haven't seen the dear-hoof wall hangers, but I know that my parents were joking about it one time... Heh.

Anyways, wow! The detail in this is pretty awesome, and the colors actually look right, at least to me. c:

I'm tempted to go out deer hunting. And thank you for this chart, it's very helpful.

Now I'm a hunter that goes out for the food, yes the best ones I keep as trophies, but the stuff I don't eat goes to my animals. I don't like wasting anything, like when a hunter just go out and kills 10 deer just for the trophies and does nothing with the meat. If you're gonna do that at least donate the meat to like a carnivore preserve or someplace that can use it.

There is nothing wrong about to have some trophies It is a way to keep memories of your achievement ...and a really nice decoration for your room(s). If I ever get a nice buck myself i'd love to give a go with taxidermy.

That makes me so hungry ;.;

But it's kinda sad to think about the animals we keep to eat. If we just ate less meat, we could do something about it :c

I would love to eat deer once, but most meat from wild animals is given to pets because people don't want to eat it. I don't really get it, because they do serve it in restaurants and suddenly people DO want to eat it. But you can't get it anywhere else. They're planning to shoot even more wild deer very close to where I live. There are too many. But they're not even going to eat them, such a waste...

I like it as long as it is for food you know? Not hunting 6 deers, get their heads to hang them on the wall, use one for meat and let the rest root... my uncle and my grandfather do it because they like it, but when they hunt they just kill what they know they will consume

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 2

AHundredWingedWishes In reply to Celia94 [2013-09-25 00:17:40 +0000 UTC]

Often times it is illegal not to use the carcass and if the hunter doesn't want the meat it gets taken and put to use in soup kitchens or used so those who need it most can get it.

1980sbully In reply to Celia94 [2013-09-24 16:09:25 +0000 UTC]

Yeah I agree, you should USE the meat. You killed the animal make it useful to you, or giving life was pointless.

Very nice. If you do another you might also look into the ways primitive people processed animals. I know the brains were used to tan the hide, and the intestines could be used for making bow string. Obviously not parts very commonly used today, but like my momma always said "why be waist-full." Β

I've never really thought about making wall hangers from the feet, that's kind of a nifty idea.
However, this chart lacks many things you can get out of the animal that are completely delicious, mainly the offal, such as lungs, kidneys, liver you did include the heart) and the tounge just to name a few.
The eyes and the brain are also completely edible, just not something I'd chow down on.
You can also make bone flutes and many neat tools that can be made from the bones and antlers.
Not to forget that you can roast the bones first and make a great stock.
The pelt can also be used for fly tying

I'd love to get into hunting one day, but right now I lack the time and money I need to get a license and a firearm.
Also bow hunting is illegal here in Sweden, which is a damn shame. I've heard that they're working on changing that, but they've been saying that for almost a decade without much happening.

RedbuzzarddArt In reply to jLundhArt [2013-09-24 09:53:56 +0000 UTC]

I think everything is edible, but what you mention is I think uncommon. From what I have seen, most hunters will just throw away the organs or they use them for bait (trapping or baiting). Brains will be crushed and removed from the skull. I just made this chart for common things that are done with.Β

jLundhArt In reply to RedbuzzarddArt [2013-09-24 12:19:51 +0000 UTC]

If they are uncommon, hunters are missing out. Venison liver is one of the most delectable things out there

Very common in many mediterranean and middle eastern countries. Pretty good eating as far as I've heard.
They try it out in this English cooking show www.youtube.com/watch?feature=…
If someone offered it to me I'd try it, but I don't think I'd get it for cooking myself.

It's kinda sobering when you realize where you food comes from. Then again, we didn't have to sneak up on an animal with far superior hearing and smell than us, and have to shoot to kill, or track it down if it was only injured to finish the job, assuming it didn't attack first if it got cornered, or the long hard task of raise it as live stock.Β
