Description
Update: Thanks everyone for the DD. I've uploaded a higher contrast image, so you may see the text better. : )Dedicated to my the watchers, who seem to enjoy my pencil work.
-----
This tutorial covers the materials, process, and mistakes of the penciling process, and there is even a short step by step demonstration showing how I do my pencil drawings. Although the example is anime, this can really be used for all styles and the methods and steps taken carry outside of the genre. I worked quite hard on this, so I hope you all enjoy it. This tutorial IS reading intense, but it's worth it--I promise.
Feel free to ask me a question by sending me a note. And, please do tell me if this tutorial helps you any as it encourages me to make more and it simply makes me happy.

How do I prevent smudging after I am done drawing?
All you have to do is go down your local arts and crafts store and purchase some fixative. It's like a spray that you can use on your drawings to prevent smudging. Make sure you step back away from your drawing when you spray and if you are sensative to sprays or odors, use it outside. Also, you make sure you purchase a 'workable' fixative' so that you can still come back and edit easily. You can also use hair spray as a cheap substitute^^ Don't grab the adhesive spray by mistake!! They are usually placed right next to each other in similar cans.
I make my tutorials for free, but if you enjoy my tutorials and want to donate some funds for gas, art books and such, I would appreciate it. [link]

Thanks so much for writing this! I only have a very basic idea of how to sketch, since I wasn't taught much. I only have one question: is there a printer-friendly version somewhere? Like, a Word document with all of the pictures that anybody who is interested could download and print? Thank you ~

I like that you say "Don't tell yourself you can't draw."
I get tired of showing my work to others and being proud of it, only to get the same response each time: "I can only draw stick people. *giggle*"
I'm like "Wha--? Anyone can draw! You just have to WANT to and actually practice! You think I was born able to create things like this that I'm proud of?!"

Great tips, If I may ask, where do you get your mechanical pencil filler lead of the different grade... I've looked everywhere. I currently use just the regular ol' sketching pencils... but as we all know, the higher the blackness, the shorter the pencil life

Ah this is the biggest help I've had since i stared drawing (2 years go wow XD)
I am most definitely going to try a few of the techniques mentioned i need to start shading again! 8D
Oh... uhmmm If you don't mind my input as I am a writer also... there are a few grammar/ spelling errors in it here and there. Heh, you don't have to listen to my gabbing, but some people prefer to know about them
Awesome tutorial its an immense amount of help!

First, your drawings are freaking awesome, and second, thanks! This was helpful! I like thin lines and details (even though I'm terrible/average at drawing), so thanks for explaining the way they measure pencil thickness and hardness too. At school I'm working on a drawing after one of Munch's paintings, but it isn't turning out right...Heh, I'm a better painter than drawer =]

Great tutorial, though I have one gripe about it- it's kind of hard to read, because of the size and colors of the fonts you used.

Nice tutorial, very informative.
The thing I sometimes do differently though is working from dark to light instead of light to dark. But everyone has their own styles of doing things... whatever works best for people is the way to go.
Thanks for making and congrats on the DD
