Description WARNING: FULLSIZE IS HUGE!!!

Please download a PATTERN here: [link]

This tutorial can be used for making human-size boots too, with some changes to the process:
1. No wire in the soles, of course.
2. Leather for all parts should be much thicker than for dolls.
3. Use stiff and strong leather for the outer soles. Make low heels (I recommend not more than 3 cm high) because higher heels require special soles.

Enjoy!

Yes, I hand sew all my boots because I don't trust my sewing machine enough.
Good luck in your work!

have you made one they come up as high as knee hight... and did you have to put in a zipper or other means to open close boots to improve fit?

Yes, I made several pairs knee high (and up) with tight fit. Please look at this: [link] and this: [link]
I sewed in the zipper the same way it's done in clothes.

I wish there was something I could offer you in trade... b/c I doubt I will ever get to your skill level in making boots... if you have seen any of the boots and shoes Ive tried to make over the years you could understand my level of frustration!!!

I'm afraid the things I need may be too hard to make at home, e.g.: jewelry, certain furniture etc. The rest I can do myself or with some help. I'm sorry again!

Thanks! You may use recycled leather (an old jacket, soft boots or something like that).

Interesting. I posted a tutorial for making shoes on my blog a while ago; it's fairly similar to your technique, except I don't use wire - instead, I cut two or three sole shapes out of card, glueing them together and clamping them either to the base of a doll's heel foot or else to a wooden last whilst still wet so as the glue dries and hardens, it stiffens the card into a shaped sole. I do two shaped soles for each boot - one goes inside as the inner sole (usually covered with a pale cotton to match the shoe/boot lining), and the other is covered with leather, heel attached, then glued on as the main sole. That's pretty much the way real, human-sized shoes are made except usually the soles would be several layers of leather glued - or, more commonly these days, shaped pieces of plastic & rubber.

You could also roll out a thin sheet of SuperSculpey and press it over a metal shoe last shaped out of mild steel, trim the sole to shape then bake it to make good strong soles that will stand up to a lot of use. I'm also considering casting them in resin.

Arkady,

I saw your exquisite historical-themed shoes and your tutor on DoA. I also had a practice on a shoemaking factory several times while studying in the institute, back in mid-1990th so I'm pretty familiar with the process. I adapted this technology to my needs and, most importantly, made it easy and not too time consuming. Not everybody can work with Sculpey, me as example, baking plastics are just not my material. Casting in resin is a very complicated process. Steel supporter needs special scissors too.
My tutor is composed such a way ANY noob can try it, no baking oven or pressure pot is required.

Bent wire as a supporter has a great advantage: you may control the curve in any way and make higher and lower heels, while stiff sole doesn't allow that.
