Description Everyone needs chickens! Chickens bring joy to the world! Get a chicken and receive immediate benefits such as stress relief and smiles! Less stress means lower blood pressure and decreased risk for IBS, and smiling gives fewer wrinkles than frowning! What a win-win situation! Chicken chicken chicken!

Here is Loona, my silkie hen and four chicks (er, well, three in this picture) that she hatched out when we stuck 8 eggs from the supermarket under her. She is showing them the yard and it was so cute watching them follow her around and huddle under her!

Never seen a blacked out chicken before, this is breathtakingly intriguing! Kudos to you for this beautiful specimen.

Thank you! She's seven and a half years old now, still and soft, black, and grumpy as she was in this photo.

You need some chickens ASAP! They will be friends with Kuma! Mochi loves chickens!

The fourth chick probably wandered off into the flowers...she was in all the pictures before and after this one though! The missing chick is the only one out of the four we have left, since the other three turned out to be roos... pretty nasty ones at that. Can you believe it? Less than 3 days old and they were being really aggressive to my adult hens! (Though it was kind of sweet too... I guess Aposohce got a little too close to their sister, so the brothers ganged up on my poor Aposohce...such protective big brothers!)

omg really??? but they're little chicks.... =[[ *sigh* but I guess... nature? though I don't know how that's supposed to help chickens but yay missing chick! Does she have a name?? (:

My mom really wants another pet, but I think Kuma might think the chick to be food..... considering he's evil & kills bumblebee's for fun. ><

Nature can be quite scary sometimes, even in teeny little baby chicks! XD They were men through and through. Oh boys...XD The missing chick's name is Phosphatidylethanolamine! She is a sweet little girl who has an appetite that's too big for her own good.

Wah! Bad Kuma! Save the bees! Does he ever kill other things? We have a family friend who has a dog that kills -and eats- rats, squirrels, and birds that can't escape his mighty jaws, and he's like the size of a large chihuahua!

If you keep the chicken in a coop with a run, then Kuma won't be able to get to them! I also highly recommend quails as an alternative, since they don't really need to run around the backyard (so Kuma can't feast upon them), they're easy to tame, and lay lots of yummy eggs to eat too! Quail quail quail!

Another beautiful VIC I want to squeeze her to death And what are the lovely bloddy red flowers behind ? They make a nice background.

I guess the fourth chick is of the adventurous kind ? Or maybe he's a loner ?

Lots of VICs! Everyone needs a VIC (or two... or three...or fifty...)! The red flowers in the back are kalanchoe! We had to move them to another location though since the chickens kept eating them... it was such a sad sight to see after two months since there were only a few stems and flowers left, like a lawn mower had razed through them!

The fourth chick was the only girl out of the four. I still have her now, though her three brothers had to be rehomed since they were aggressive and would get too noisy for our suburban neighborhood. The mother still loves her adopted daughter very much! It's so sweet to see them together, though kind of sad too. The daughter is very mean to the mother, but the mother won't do anything back, even though she's the queen of the coop and will happily attack all the other hens. She also follows her daughter everywhere, making sure she is safe. Motherly love!

:lmfao: Eating flowers, huh ? Mines prefer to digguing them out. Especially if said flowers are freshly planted. :lmfao:

What a...bitter sweet story. Motherly love indeed. Oh, poor boys through. Here, having farm animals is a tradition...a quickly disapearing one I admit, but at least nobody complain about it. That's cool.

So true! I guess they think I buried treats under there or something! XD

It's now becoming trendy to go back to the "old days" where people have "real food," so having a vegetable garden or keeping bees or chickens is becoming more common (though sadly not common enough!). For people who don't have the yard for it, then buying organic and "going green" is a huge deal now too. Still though, it's a movement that's still relatively new so the idea of keeping chickens for pets in a suburban or city yard instead of a farm is still rather shocking to some people.

Here, with the places problem, you know : "Where will the young live ?", etc...it's becoming rarer and rarer. We simply don't have the place anymore. But it is the way it has always been, keeping pets for food and having your own vegetable garden. But for that, you have to wish your parent's death...or find a cat with thumbs and take over the house !!

He was my favorite too! So formal and polite, yet always getting into trouble thanks to Ed and Eddy! They were a fun trio... One can never be too old for cartoons!

I really think that his friendship with them gave him a little more confidence, even though he constantly got in trouble. ROFL. He was so shy and quiet in the beginning and he got a little less so as the show progressed. So adorable is he.

NEVAH TOO OLD! -goes to watch Spongebob- AYE AYE CAPTAIN!

It is! I was so happy that I got to keep part of my "experiment!" I'd be so sad if they all ended up being roos! She's a great layer, and super sweet, although rather destructive to the yard...

ScythicKitty In reply to CloudandFeather [2013-05-11 07:00:46 +0000 UTC]

Loona is a most wonderful furry chicken! I hope you can come over so she can sit on your lap again! Yay for chickens!

Those are kalanchoe flowers in the back! They are very popular flowers for Mother's Day, so if you are thinking of getting flowers aside from roses or tulips, this one is a good one! They are also very popular for chickens to eat...
