Description
Well, I mainly put this up as proof that I am working on fanart. I apologize for the lack of... well... anything. I seem to be ending up with sparse portraits. These are meant to be just concept sketches (which is why they are in my scraps) of my impression of Hope and Powerful Tenderness from the Firekeeper series. I figured that so much of the wonderfully colorful cast of characters was being largely ignored, so I decided to focus on a large number of characters all at once!
Unfortunately, the scanner I used left out about half the pseudo-detail and barely noticed the rest. So, they may be a bit hard to see. Oh well. I'm still working on it.
Anyway, these are just two of many sketches I did of these two. (The rest were just too atrocious to put up, even in scraps, but they were helpful.) I wanted to emphasize their human dignity while also keeping their unsettlingly alien qualities.
I was tempted to make Powerful Tenderness a lot more bestial, but I wanted to make him look like a leader also. It was difficult keeping him from looking like a yeti. Hope is easier in concept but harder in getting down on paper. I didn't want her to just look like a lady in a bird suit. So, I've been going through different types of bird qualities (crests, necks, predator vs. songbird, etc). The only thing I know is that she is blue. In any case, they are both still under construction. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Hahaha, don't worry about lengthy comments! I tend to leave long ones, too!
Also, I've never actually seen this phenomenon called "fangirl giddiness" before! I've heard of its existence, but only on tv! Hm, I will have to take notes on this. Where's my microscope? Igor! Find my microscope!
...
Sorry. It's rather late and my mental holds on my precarious sanity are getting a bit shaky. Thanks again for the kind words and suggestions!

How did I miss this in my inbox o_o?
I'm so happy to see maimalodalum fanart!!
They were such interesting characters and if I had better animal drawing skills I would've attempted drawing them long ago :3
I love how your Hope came out, especially her neck and her head feathers :3
I don't remember her being blue, I always mentally pictured her yellow for some reason. Then again, I fairly recently realized that Doc had a beard and I still mentally picture him without one >_>...
And Powerful Tenderness was one of my top favorite maimalodalum ^_^! I pictured him looking like a big bear with snake eyes...and ...someother animal stuff... I can't remember what all the maimalodaulm's were mixed with >_<. I'll have to re read that book again when I get time today.
Anywho, I always forget to mentally add human features to them, so your PowerTenderness makes alot of sense!
I'll definetly have this version in mind when I next read the books again ^_~
I would LOOOOVVEEE to see the other sketches you have of them! So I hope you get past this ' they're not good enough' nonesense and post 'em! ^_~
I also hope that you plan to draw Questioner and Sky too!! And am I the only one that thinks that Plik would look like the Racoons in Studio Ghibli's PomPoko ? o_o
Either way, I would love to see your version of Plik as well!
So, in short MOAR ARTZ FRM JOO PLZ!!

Thank you for the high praise! I actually wasn't sure if I really knew what I was doing! I tend to take details a bit too seriously, and when I finally let loose, I feel guilty about it. Please be aware that these are still in the concept stage. I hope my next drawing of them will be a little more exciting (and clear)!
I was actually planning to sketch Plik alongside these two, but I am still researching raccoons. I always had a mental picture of him that resembled Friar Tuck (even though he's a mole, I think) from Disney's Robin Hood (but a much smaller version). Questioner is going to be quite difficult, but I definitely want to give him a try! I'm having a hard time remembering Sky, for some reason. Which one was he again (and which book, to make research easier)?

Ahhh, I can see him as a racoon version of Friar Tuck. I hope you sketch him out soon, I would love to see him drawn in your realistic style ^_^.
And you were right.Hope was blue, I just found it >_<. I think I pictured her yellow because of a yellow bird woman character that showed up on Disney's Aladdin series >_>...
And the maimalodalum descriptions and intros are in Wolf Captured ( this book had the best opening IMO) page 509. ^_~

Ok, thank you! That saves me quite a bit of time! However, does it name Sky?

If I remember correctly, he had a much longer name, but it was just Sky for short ^_~.But, I could be wrong, I'll have to double check when I'm able to get back to my books later ^_^

After some research, I do think you are referring to Sky-Dreaming Earth-Bound, right? I'm guessing that he's the one with the head of an eagle.
He's actually turning out to be the easiest one to plan out! Plik is difficult because realistic raccoons are difficult. Questioner is really awkward to draw because it's hard to make him look serious! I know he's old, but he's also a bit wild. How does one meld the wise gravity of an old man with the the instinctive simplicity of an animal without ending up with an anime phoenix? Hm, it is a problem. It's also a rather long question!

Ah yes, thats who I meant :3, that name is too long for my brain to remember
Does that mean that you started drawing them already?! If yes, then WOOHOO !
I dunno, when you say old and wild I can't help but think of an old biker gang o_o...

Yes, I've started drawing them, but I'm still trying to get their look right. It's been really difficult to organize all the characteristics I want them to have. It's still really fun, though!
