Description This is a tutorial I made a whole while back, before my brony days
Download for full view.
You can also read it here: [link] (you might need to log in on a gaia account to see it, please don't post in that thread! )

It's not really a tutorial on the progress of drawing, but just some tips on how to use Paint Tool SAI more efficiently. It's also a great time saver for people who begin using this program or who want to try it out.
Not everything is in there though, I discovered more things since I made this.

It's uploaded originally on my old account:
Since I wasthinking about doing a tutorial on pony art anyway, I figured it would be a good idea to re-upload it here as well ^^

The drawing used in this tutorial is this one:

Danny-phantom-fan-1 In reply to ??? [2014-09-30 15:29:08 +0000 UTC]

Is there any way to do this kind of thing with backgrounds?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

secret-pony In reply to Danny-phantom-fan-1 [2014-09-30 16:13:35 +0000 UTC]

Yup, the exact same way.
If you draw your backgrounds on the same layer as your foreground character(s), you can just use the same tricks.
If you draw it separately, be sure to connect the (invisible) lines behind the characters to not leave open gaps, else it won't work! x3

This helped a bit. But is the sharp point at the end of the brush only for pen tablet? I use mouse, but is it possible to get the sharp point using mouse?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

secret-pony In reply to TheAnimatedBandsLove [2014-07-08 18:51:09 +0000 UTC]

Sorry, this is for tablet and pen only. The sharp end is created when you lift the pressure off the pen at the end of a stroke.

Thank u so much! Nice tips u got there When u made the template of the girl, what tool and option did u use?( if u dont remember, what do u then use now when u make templates? :3 ) The lines look very smooth and simple.

secret-pony In reply to Yatoshi287 [2014-07-07 09:16:14 +0000 UTC]

I'm not sure what you mean by "template", do you mean the line art?
If so, I use the default brush tool for my lines.
You can find the settings I used here . :3

My stabilizers don't seem to be working with the sharper end thing.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

secret-pony In reply to Mazoorie [2014-06-14 15:02:25 +0000 UTC]

I'm not entirely sure what you mean.

You're talking about the stabilizer function with values 1 to 15, right?
Hmm... let's start with some basic troubleshooting questions:
- are you drawing with a tablet?
- if yes, which brand are you using? Does it have pen pressure?
- if yes, are you using the pen pressure? Are you able to create thicker/darker lines when drawing if you press harder on with your pen?

Thanks for a great tutorial! I think this will be a huge help for someone like me. I'm just starting to get familiar with SAI for inking. I generally color in Photoshop, but I might have to try it your way and see what happens.
