Description I apologize for the font used in these tutorials. I can't remember why I chose it in the first place but I kept using it so the tutorials would have some continuity in the form of layout.

This is a tutorial I thought I'd make for fun since I realised fringes/bangs aren't a very common tutorial topic. I hope this will help some of you and that the instructions are clear enough to understand. Explaining has never been my strongest asset.
If there's anything that needs clarification or if you want to know more, just ask! I can also make a foam/dread falls tutorials if needed.

NOTICE: I like to do things from scratch and I don't have much money so my equipment and materials may not be the easiest ones. So that's what I aim for my tutorial to show: how to make things with nothing extra or very fancy.

EDIT: When taking off the paper, try to take everything out. I was way too lazy when I was making this tutorial...

Sorry I look terrible in the pics, I couldn't be bothered to look good XD Also my sewing machine is old and barely works so sorry for the messy sewing

Yeah, the fibers are not the best thing for the sewing machine if they get inside it XD But I'm glad it paid off!

How do you attach the clips for the clip-in fringe? Do you just use your normal hair clips, or do you attach special clips to the fringe?

I've never made clip-in fringes but I've seen people make them with these: [link] . You can see a description for them here [link] under "Wig/Weave Clips" (:

Can you help me? I believe I did read somewhere that foam falls can be mounted on the headband. Could you help me with that? Or do you have any ideas on how to put on foam falls easily? Because most of the time I see them wrapped around hairbuns, but my hair is too short to make a bun Thanks in advance

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

SpookyLoop In reply to Nishikihebi [2012-01-26 16:01:33 +0000 UTC]

Hmm, I've never heard of anyone wearing foam falls like that. I don't think you can have a lot of foam on that kinds of falls, but I think you can give it a go. You could try hand-sewing the foam on the headband or if the headband allows it, you can try attaching the foam with eyelets. Like I said, I've never heard or even seen anyone do it like this so I'm just throwing ideas in the air... Maybe you could look up tutorials for foam mohawks and see how you could modify those techniques to this? I think the biggest issue won't be the mounting, but how to make it look good.

It's actually funny, i had some synthetic hair like from a wig that i had to cut off to shorten the wig's hair length for a cosplay charater. so i was wondering what i could do with all the leftovers. this is a great help ^^

actually i was wondering too, i was looking at your dreadlock tutorial and i was wondering can synthetic hair (like from a halloween wig) be used to make the dreadlocks as well?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

SpookyLoop In reply to THEGREATTITANICCHICK [2012-01-20 16:09:58 +0000 UTC]

It depends on the material, but I don't see why not. Most dreadwigs are made by backcombing ready-made wigs. You can always give it a go (:

How do you put them on?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

SpookyLoop In reply to Phantomgirl96 [2011-10-19 07:04:16 +0000 UTC]

As explained in the tutorial, you attach the hair to a hairband. Then you then put it on like any other hairband, e.g. [link] . When placed right, it'll make a nice fringe.

okami-chan1023 [2011-10-10 22:41:30 +0000 UTC]

Love the tutorial, but you never EVER want to sew through paper. Its kinda like how you never use Sewing or hair cutting scissors on paper it WILL dull the blade. So by using a sewing needle on paper, it will dull the point and make it hard to sew with. I suggest tulle or organza fabric, both are very lightweight and easier to sew through. Plus its inexpensive!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

SpookyLoop In reply to okami-chan1023 [2011-10-11 13:46:58 +0000 UTC]

You're right, it does dull the point but keep in mind this is thinner paper than the regular copy paper. Also people will probably one do one-two fringes which won't "strain" the needle as much as doing a whole bunch.
Organza sounds like a great option though! I have to try that sometime. I try to keep these tutorials as easy as possible, when it comes to instructions and materials so I sometimes have to overlook some a bit special materials, but organza could really work. I've tried tulle but it was quite hard to make it work...

You're incredibly detailed with these tutorials. Right down to the optimal place to purchase for up the the "look" once finished. I like these tutorials because you show at least two "all done" images, in this case, two different color Fringes. Very well done.

Hey, I made more!! Okay, well, not quite more, but extensions to go with the bangs. It uses the same general concept, you just leave them longer. So tada! [link] I want to make LOTS more...it's addicting. XD

I finished mine!! They're just a dark auburn (got the clearance stuff from ikickshins), but I think they came out pretty good. I used tulle instead of paper and OMG, it's so hard to work with!! lol Not surprising and it'll take some practice to get used to it, but I'm definitely gonna be making some more!! ^-^ [link]

Aww...thanks!! I used a mini straightener to make them curl like that...it made things soooo easy!! Now I just gotta find the time to make more.... >.>

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

SpookyLoop In reply to FrozenBleedingStake [2011-07-27 21:25:46 +0000 UTC]

Are they real human hair? My hair straightener hates it when I try to use it on my fibers... ):

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

FrozenBleedingStake In reply to SpookyLoop [2011-07-27 21:35:41 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, the brown is. The blue and pink I got is kanekalon tho. My mini straightener is pretty low heat tho, just cuz it's small. I've got a normal size one and a really big one, but I don't think I'd wanna try using either of them on the fake stuff...if my mini works on the fake stuff I'll let you know tho. It really does make styling so easy!!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

SpookyLoop In reply to FrozenBleedingStake [2011-07-28 00:27:23 +0000 UTC]

Kanekalon is hard to make look good :/ It can be done but usually it has a plastic roughness to it. Kinda sucks but I guess it just requires practice.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

FrozenBleedingStake In reply to SpookyLoop [2011-07-28 12:23:21 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, prolly...everything requires practice. But I wanna be super awesome at it RIGHT NOW!!! lol Maybe there's some technique out there somewhere...I looked at all the tutorials on ikickshins and I didn't read anything about making it look nicer/softer...

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

SpookyLoop In reply to FrozenBleedingStake [2011-07-28 15:50:50 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, I think the best hair you can get are made from human hair. You can get those in shock colours as well since they hair is dye-able just like normally but they always cost a bit more :/

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

FrozenBleedingStake In reply to SpookyLoop [2011-07-28 20:09:34 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, and that's pretty lame...especially cuz if you wanna do anything really different you gotta dye it yourself and that takes a lot of time...and very little dye, of which you have to buy a full bottle... >.>

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

SpookyLoop In reply to FrozenBleedingStake [2011-07-28 21:46:27 +0000 UTC]

Yeah :/ I've seen some places that sell those but they're usually like little clip on streaks which aren't that good for fringes. They sell clip on fringes here but they cost like 20 euros and that's just way too much. They have really cool ones on I Kick Shins though!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

FrozenBleedingStake In reply to SpookyLoop [2011-07-29 14:01:57 +0000 UTC]

Holy crap, that is expensive!! We've only got the basic clip-in streaks around here, but Hot Topic left the mall, so I gotta drive to the next city if I wanna get anything from there. And those two little streaks run about 10 bucks, and they're only about an inch wide. If you wanna pay for it, you can go to the hair supply store and get the blonde hair and some colored dye to make them yourself, but that's super expensive too...

They do have some cool things on I Kick Shins, which is always awesome, but I'm still cheap, so I'll make them myself. lol

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

SpookyLoop In reply to FrozenBleedingStake [2011-08-01 21:46:24 +0000 UTC]

Yeah same here... And my hair sucks so I can't even attach the clip on to my hair... They'd just keep falling of. So I'm just gonna stick with my self-made fringes (:

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

FrozenBleedingStake In reply to SpookyLoop [2011-08-02 15:30:42 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, the clips for those little ones don't work very well. I like the ones you can order from I Kick Shins because they have the rubber on them, so they grip your hair a LOT better. I can usually get stuff like that to stick in my hair either way tho...my hair's CRAZY thick, so it holds really well. Now if you give me a basic snap clip...I can hardly put any hair in it or they pop back open. So they don't really help me out with hair stuff... ^_^;;;

FrozenBleedingStake In reply to SpookyLoop [2011-08-05 17:47:01 +0000 UTC]

Yes we are!! Tho I did find some extension sets and stuff pretty cheap on etsy, which is cool. There's a couple shops that have scented hair spray made for synthetic hair (or your own) in a bunch of cool scents. They also have special shampoos and stuff...I'm thinking about getting me some... ^-^

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

SpookyLoop In reply to FrozenBleedingStake [2011-08-06 17:37:34 +0000 UTC]

Ooh sounds cool! I wonder how long the scent lasts though... I couldn't probably use those, I get migraine really easily, especially from strong scents ):

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

FrozenBleedingStake In reply to SpookyLoop [2011-08-07 17:17:44 +0000 UTC]

Aww... *hugs* I understand that. I don't get migraines, but I have issues breathing with strong scents sometimes. Usually the more perfume-y ones. Like we have some febreeze air stuff and my bf likes to spray it like crazy if one of the cats poops and it's REALLY strong. But I have to go hide in another room to be able to breathe. It sucks. Oh, and one of my jobs usually gives me a headache by the end of the day. It's fast food and the grease...well, lets just say after almost 5 hours it gets to you. >.>
