Description
16 x 22Gouache paints with coloured pencil on watercolour paper
*** This is technically a re-posting of this illustration. I plan to do so with all of my Potter art work building up (hopefully) to having some new stuff to share there after. So if you feel like you've seen this before - you probably have. On the upside, I'm sharing it at a larger resolution and without the DeviantArt watermark on it now ***
I struggled with this painting. Largely because I felt like the Slytherin common room is the star of the scene - and I'm not a fan of drawing/painting backgrounds. But as always, I give them my best, even if they're difficult. Over all I'm happy with how it turned out. My only real disappointment was not being able to show the giant squid swimming by the windows - which I could have done, but when I tried, the rest of the room suffered. You can still see it... technically - but it's not super clear and mostly hidden by the walls.

really cool!! I truly like the perspective!! But mostly, Crabbe-Ron and Goyle-Harry's expressions are perfect!!!!!!

I see the windows are under the lake? And even though it looks slightly for building at the same time it looks cosy

Yup yup - the Slytherin common room is under the lake - hence they can see the giant squid swimming around outside. And thanks - making it dark and dank, while also cozy was what I was going for

Very murky (in a good way).
If you could, would you REDO this page? And how?

Hehehe - yeah, a good murky - as the Slytherins would like it
I have redone 3 Harry Potter paintings - 2 of them I got all the way through and decided they just weren't right, and thusly started over. If I had felt that bad about this illustration, I would have done it. So, by the fact that I wasn't embarrassed to show this illustration is evidence that it "passed". It's maybe not may favorite painting I've done, but I moved passed it. IF - I did redo it, I would just hope to improve with my structural drawing/painting skills, and do a better job. Maybe a slightly more "dynamic" angle.
