Gouache paints with coloured pencil on watercolour paper

*** This is technically a re-posting of this illustration. I plan to do so with all of my Potter art work building up (hopefully) to having some new stuff to share there after. So if you feel like you've seen this before - you probably have. On the upside, I'm sharing it at a larger resolution and without the DeviantArt watermark on it now ***

As I said in the vignette drawing for this chapter, I just never got into this chapter for some reason. I don't know why, it just didn't do much for me, and I struggled getting into the painting. I tried to have fun with showing all the ghosts in a painting for the first time - at least so significantly. I tried to include all the important ghosts, the elements of the chapter and, just as much of the scene as possible. In the end, I think it dulled down the composition, Β and could have been better, but it's at least a feast of details and things to see.

It's been a while since I read this book, but if that's Peeves the Poltergeist why does he look more solid than the others?

If you don't like this chapter, you're probably glad it WASN'T in the movie, am I right?

Peeves looks more solid BECAUSE he's a poltergeist, and not a ghost. I don't remember where the description is, but it's specified somewhere that he's in color and solid in appearance.Β

As fart as being glad the scene wasn't in the movie... well, if I had my way the movies would have every detail from the books - I'm kind of a purist that way. But I know the movies can't be 100% book reproductions; changes need to happen and things need to get cut. I just take the fact that the scene isn't in the movie as a sort of explanation to why I don't care for it - it can be cut and doesn't affect the grander story.

Because Peeves IS solid. It's a mistake from the video games and such when they show him as translucent, leading to this common misconception.

Oh wow hauntingly beautiful XD. I see one ghost trying to taste like I remember from the book. And I laughed seeing the gangster ghost!

Thanks so much! I tried to cover as many details from the scene as I could - while throwing in the little touches like the gangster and ghosts from different eras Β

I can see one of the ghosts is Jacob Marley from β€˜A Christmas Carol’

I'm glad you like the painting - I struggled through it. But that's cool that you caught that I tried to do a mix of eras the ghosts came from.
