Description
Season 2 truly is the peak of the show. It has the most consistent highs, however it does have more lows than season 1. Season one’s episodes were all in the range of 7-10, but season 2 lowers that bar to include a single 6/10: A Clone of My Own. All the episodes they do with the clones are a bit below average for the early show’s standards, but even then that’s still just a 6/10.
From what I remember, this season also has the first song in the series from “How Hermes Requisitioned His Groove Back.” The song is great and so is the episode.
This season also has a lot of Bender centric episodes. This season definitely shows Bender at his peak in terms of the lines he has and what he does. This season also contains the first spotlight episode for Zoidberg, who is my favorite character if we’re going on the entire series. In general season 2 gives a lot more focus to the other crew members rather than season 1's mostly Fry centered adventures.
Animation wise, the series continues its use of blended traditional animation and CGI. The CGI certainly looks rough in a modern context, but it looks really good for the time and doesn’t look jarring compared to the show’s traditional animation style.
So overall, season 2 just really improves on the foundation season 1 left while still keeping the tone and comedy of the show fresh. Let's hope that season 3 continues this momentum.
