Description
The man came in front of them and turned to them. Rebecca and Gillian stopped.- You ok ? enquired Rebecca, seeing he was having troubles catching his breath.
The man nodded.
- yes, yes, just a bit … exhausted, he replied.
- Take your time, said Rebecca. And take deep breaths.
- I know, I know.
While he was doing that, Rebecca and Gillian looked at each other, exchanging a knowing smile, nodding simultaneously, and their lips forming the word “Henry”.
- Have you seen a woman ? He asked finally. She's hopping on some sort of a pegleg and she … well she ...
He leaned forward a little, to better see Gillian. He seemed to be searching his words.
- I hope I'm not disrespectful saying it like this but … she … misses her limbs exactly like you.
He made a new pause. Gillian looked at Rebecca and whispered to her:
- he did not say I'm exactly like her ! *
- I noticed, responded Rebecca, sheepishly.
- No, that's not disrespectful, Gillian answered the man.
- I'm sorry to stare, but it's amazing. I didn't think I would ever met another woman with the same body shape. Another who is also beautiful, he added with a little smile.
- Thank you, said Gillian, blushing. To be honest, I didn't think either. It's very rare.
- I know. Oh, and you're beautiful too, he said hastily to Rebecca. By the way, I did not introduced myself. I'm …
- Henry ! Said in unison Gillian and Rebecca, interrupting him.
- Oh. That means you saw Deborah ?
- Briefly, said Gillian, laughing.
Rebecca started to laughing too. The man smiled.
- I'm Gillian.
- And I'm Rebecca.
- Pleased to meet you two. She's impressive, isn't she ? He asked, obviously in love with her.
- Undoubtedly. If someone can really be a judge of this, I think that would be me, said Gillian. I have tried that. And I can confirm that what she does is impressive.
- Oh. And you still do it ?
- No. Too exhausting. Too dangerous. You have to be crazy to do that.
- Well … I can't blame you to say that. It's right she's a bit reckless. More than a bit in fact. And she likes to show off.
- Given her talent, I can understand why, said Gillian, with a hint of envy.
- I have a question said Rebecca.
- Yes ?
- Deborah seems to be faster than you are, right ?
- Eh … yes, that's right, he admitted reluctantly.
- How is this possible ?
- Well, I am not properly dressed for jogging …
- And why is that ? She seemed to be properly dressed. And equiped. So it looks like it was planned ?
- Yes, but I … eh … thought she was joking … I met her only a few weeks ago. We had some dates. And each time I saw her she was in a wheelchair or with stubbies like yours, he said, pointing to Gillian.
- Let me see if I understood you correctly, said Gillian. She invited you to join her for a jogging, but you assumed she couldn't really run, or at best not go very fast, and so you dress up like … this ?
- Yes, that's what I thought … he said sheepishly. It's that blade, he ventured, trying to justify himself. It's like the kangaroos, It's very efficient. It gives her a great advantage.
- Advantage ? So you think the blade not only compensates for her almost complete lack of limbs but gives her an advantage over you, who have all his limbs, or almost, and that's your excuse ? asked Rebecca, angrily.
- Well … no of course. Besides my ill-suited shoes there's also that … I'm not doing much exercise he admitted, embarrassed.
- It seems she tricked you, said Gillian. In fact, she did make a joke when she invited you, just not the one you thought, but one at your expense
- Yes, that must be it. That would explain why she was in fact happy when she saw I didn't took her idea of a jogging seriously. Well, I suppose I deserved it. Maybe she wanted to teach me a lesson. Something like never underestimate her.
- You never should. Nor me. Or any people with a disability.
- Yes. Lesson learned. I should have known, he said, raising a little his forearm stump. I'm still able to do about anything I was before. But I guess that compared to her, or you, that doesn't mean much.
- No, it doesn't, confirmed Gillian. You love her ?
- Oh, yes ! I just hope she loves me too and that she didn't just want to make a fool of me.
- Maybe she is genuinely interested in you and was teasing you, testing you to see how you react, and decide upon that whether she wishes to go further with you or not.
- Oh ! Yes, that must be it. Thank you ! I shall do everything I can to convince her, she is so … Excuse me now, I must go after her.
- Can I have your phone number ? I'd like to meet you again, said Gillian.
She blushed a little realizing what she just said and added:
- I mean, we'd like to meet Deborah and you again.
- Of course. I'd like that too.
They exchanged phone numbers and Henry resumed his awkward running to try to catch up with Deborah.

Great continuation to the story. Again, the conversation is very well written and makes some really good points in an entertaining way! It seems that Henry (whatever his virtues - and he seems to be a really nice guy) has badly underestimated his new girlfriend(?). What a brilliant way to teach him a valuable lesson... both Deborah and now Gillian and Rebecca too!
I like the way we get a little bit more insight into Deborah's character too from the way that Henry talks about her!

Thank you !
Yes, he did underestimated Deborah, and he certainly hopes her to be his girlfriend, but it's too soon. And Deborah also thinks he is a nice guy but wants to see if he understands and learns the lesson before going further.

Thank you !
I'm afraid it will not go very far for now, for this story is nearing its end (two more pictures, next one should be wednesday).
But I'm thinking about a sequel where these 4 people would meet again. I just have to find a good idea for that.
Thanks for commenting. You have done so for every picture of this story, and I appreciate that very much.

Yes a sequel with all 4 would be the next logical step.
I'm sure you'll think something up. I know how this
can create headaches. Suffered many times myself.
Good luck on what ever you come u with.
