Great Karl!
Just remember that the tutorials that I write are all intended to help out the beginner... sometimes they don't include some advanced info because it's a bit much for noobs to absorb all at one time.

hey all of us can learn something new all the time.
I have had moderate success with birds in flight, this can only help improve me.

Sea Gulls don't seem to be too difficult, it seems the little sparrows are darned near impossible! I think that an f2.8 lens is almost required for the fast ones.

I'm looking at a 80~200mm f/2.8

I'm thinking of a macro next... right now I have the sigma 70-200 telephoto/macro - but I'm growing increasingly unsatisfied with it. It's got a focal distance of about 1.2 meters for the macro function which I'm finding difficult to use. The last telephoto/macro I had didn't have the focal distance issue.. sadly it's pretty much the one exception to the pentax backwards compatability. So while it should work on my K10... it doesn't thus its relegated to my print camera's.
Of course a dedicated macro lens will have to wait until after I get my Pentax k7 (1...maybe 2 more weeks till its out!! Yay!)

I have a Tamron 70~300, it has about the same Macro range, the Macro/normal switch is a bit sticky, and it hunts horribly! Probably because it's an f/5.6. Tamron is supposed to have really good glass, but their AF motors don't seem very good. That's why I'm looking at a 2.8 70~200 with a Tamron 2X SP converter. I shoot a Nikon D80, and Nikkor lenses have pretty good glass on the low end lenses and great glass in the higher end lenses. I think I've finally accepted that the camera is important, but the lenses are even more important!

I hear ya - Money as always is the issue with me, but I'm discovering with Sigma... you get what you pay for. So in reality my 50-500... is really about a 50-450 since you start loosing so much clarity in that last 50mm - but for the time being I can live with that since other 400mm's range in the thousands of dollars. I hadn't planned on getting a new body anytime soon, until Pentax announced the K7... after looking it over, reading reviews of it, and then getting to play with a pre-production model.. well I was in love. lol
Btw, you're latest feature has really nice shot of my god daughter, so thanks for that.
