Description
~~~A tutorial on dragon feet. :3 Requested a bit ago - I found some time and decided to sit down and do it.
I really rather like how it turned out.
It explains general dragon feetsies and the general how-to-draw stuff. I included all sorts of angles and my favourite - splayed toes.
These descriptions are pretty much just how I tackle drawing different dragon feet and claws - and I find them pretty effective.
Also note, most of the dragon feet I drew/draw are five-clawed. This tutorial can also go for two/three/four/six/whatever-toed dragons. Just subtract/add some digits.
Hope you find it helpful!
Art (c) me.
cool tut! It's quite useful, and I love the detail you put in it!
A little querie/critique, tho. The toes on the pouncing feet are a little bit long, but thats just me C:
Omg, this is going to be really helpful. Dragon feet are definitely my number one part that is the most difficult to draw >.👍: 0 ⏩: 1
The timing of this is wonderful, because I'm just starting to get to the point where I really want to focus on how I draw claws, and I'm in desperate need of a good reference for them. Thanks for putting this up!
(Between you and I, I never actually need to work out the sketches beforehand. I go straight to the lines.)
But nifty, yes.
eh, i used to do that, i've found it helps me a lot more to do at least a skeletal layout first, as it lays down the basic lengths i want. then i do my lines 8D
I usually just sketch the basic silhouette - I don't really need to work with frames anymore, since I can picture it all in my head beforehand. ^^
well, that's what i used to do, but then i got all frustrated when i tried to do more complex poses, and stuff... idk, just a few lines to give general direction and positioning seems to help me alot with odd poses.
to each their own?
Always worth it!...alright, sometimes worth it. Odd poses are often 'lol-worthy'.
yeah, specially when the head ends up 4 or 5 sizes too big or small, then you have the weird crossed legs, or teh bug eyes 8D
Ah, man, the crossed legs always wig me out, ha-ha. That's the problem - the pose is all fine and dandy until you have to add the limbs.
Alright, sure!
Right now I'm picturing a long dragon-esque critter with a long, stringy body and lots of arms and legs doing all sorts of weird things. He has a frilly mane and lots of whiskers! O.o
this will be fun 8D only long fur though, nothing short, cause i suck at short fur colouring. poke my inbox with a psd if you can, or a transparent png lineart, cause it'll be easier for me to colour that way
TwilightSaint In reply to Draconigenae666 [2009-11-26 07:48:05 +0000 UTC]
Ha-ha, alright. I can do any short fur we need - I have a spiffy quick technique that takes the aches and pains out of it. I'm just picturing a big mane for him and a tiny little head poking out of all that fuzz.
I'll probably send you a PNG lineart via outside link, then. It'll probably be tomorrow or so - I can't do it tonight - it's like...three right now and I'm fading, lol. I worked on a few speedpaints and I need to recharge.
What colours should we throw on him? I'm picturing him with a light yellow body and a bright red mane and orange stripes... Tangerine-ish colours... Oh! And a flashy lime green background!
We can call him...
The Trip-Master...
Do you have anything else in mind?
