Description There's a version of this that the icon at the bottom blinks, I just can't upload it in the right category on dA =w= So I'll add a link to that later.

Anyway, this is how I made my current icon only that required a little more artistic skill because my icon eats itself. This is very basic but I hope it's helpful!
If you use this for an icon, I'd love to see your icon afterward! just leave a comment!

Yeah, other then that, this is self explanatory. And made on GIMP. Lol

((Sorry for the late reply, you might have already figured it out >.<))

You mean you can't get the thing that shows all the layers to come up? If you go to the top of the GIMP window and clock on 'windows' then click 'layers' that window will open again.
Was that what you meant?

everytime i try making a DA moving icon in gimp and i scale it down to 50x50 it says it's too big, what's wrong?

((Sorry for the late reply, you might have already figured it out >.<))

Maybe it means the file size? dA only allows icons under (i think) 15kb. To make it a smaller file, you might have to delete some layers/frames. You can check if it's the right size by right clcicking the file on your desktop and clicking 'properties' and looking for the file size.

Yes. You can do this by clicking, at the top of the main GIMP window, 'image' then 'scale image' down to the size you want.

Is there a way to do it with MSN paint or other programs?

(I know, I'm very old fashioned, but I am more used to traditional paper and pencil art.)

this helped on making simple icons, but i' trying to make an icon that has a moving scarf, lke the wind is blwoing it...but it's not woriking out too well, could you give any pointers?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

UkeVash In reply to BigRedOldenburg [2010-08-11 18:26:50 +0000 UTC]

((Sorry for the late reply, you might have already figured it out >.<))

For that, you'll just have to go frame by frame to do this. For a scarf, my suggestion is making it move like a wave. Like, start with it kind of like a curvy line that goes ^v^v^v (only a curved line, not pointy) then alternate the up and down.
Like:
^v^v^v^v
v^v^v^v^
^v^v^v^v
do you get what I'm saying?

You can just drag the file right from your desktop into the GIMP file ^^

(Oh, heck no )

You don't have to press some special shiny button that says "insert picture" or anything? Just drag it?

I have a complaint; It doesn't show the pictures! I tried it and when I saved it and then view it, the background blink but the pictures didn't show. HELP PLZ!!!!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

UkeVash In reply to CastleOblivin [2010-08-11 18:30:30 +0000 UTC]

((Sorry for the late reply, you might have already figured it out >.<))

If you want the background to blink as well as show a picture in the foreground, you have to copy the layer and just recolor the background.

Like your icon now, you would duplicate the layer a bunch of times, take the fill tool, and just recolor the orange background.
