This is really cool, im definitely interested in Inkscape! step 2) Preparing the layers completely reminds me of COD: Black Ops 2 the emblem creator lol. I would make mostly anime character heads and use one layer for an outer part of the face(jaw) then another layer would be the trace of the face(jaw).

Thanks for the tut!

You're welcome! I made this years ago, lol.

The development versions actually has a few new very handy features. They're quite usable, so you can try downloading from the Inkscape download / Development version section.

In particular, when drawing, if you choose the Triangle In or Triangle Out shapes in the top toolbar, those are actually coded with the new "Powerstroke" function (lines with variable width, basically), so switching to Edit mode (F2) will show a purple diamond, and dragging it around will allow you to change the shape of the line.

Have fun!

Love it! Depending on what the ultimate goal is, using the Trace Bitmap feature can be a way to speed up the vectorization of your line art. THanks for posting this!

Very wonderful tutorial. I just downloaded Inkscape today (realized it was free and I love vector art), and this tutorial has actually been the most helpful one I've read as of yet.

Thanks for this.

Really? Thanks! ^^

Next version of Inkscape will be even more awesome. It has an automatic pattern along path option, that will allow easy complex lines instead of the current obligation of doing complex lines manually. *_*

Fellow Inkscape user! Yay!

Good luck with Inkscape then! Once you get it (and hopefully you now have the means beyond the initial learning curve XP ) it's absolutely awesome! ^^

yep. I've attempted a few pics with it before. I'm still lost in it, so a tutorial like this is like food to a starving man

Haha, I hope it does help. XD

The trick is really to get past the initial learning curve, really. After that, the interface seems to become so obvious that it's practically a no-brainer. XP

Good luck! ^^
