Description
There is a common misconception that Jorons have weak eyesight due to bright lights, especially heavily saturated colors in bright lighting, straining their eyes. On the contrary they have extremely good eyesight, able to pick up the smallest details in almost complete darkness with an added visual sensitivity to thermal variances, however due to their nocturnal nature, anything particularly bright or vibrant tends to be harmful. Jorons who do not live on their home planet usually keep a schedule relevant to the dominant species of the city/colony they live in, which usually means a daytime schedule. To protect their health, most Jorons employ use of a visor that blocks out most light and live in homes with as few windows as possible.
The desert planet of Vellos offers little vegetation, and Jorons are exclusively carnivores, completely incapable of ingesting plant matter and those that have tried will often find themselves sick for some time- akin to the effects of lactose on someone lactose intolerant.
Jorons share a close cultural relationship to the Dozorans, each species inexplicably resembling the stuff of nightmares to the other, and after some initial culture clash, the two heavily contribute to, inspire, and collaborate with each other, most notably in the fashion and entertainment industries.
Jorons are nomadic by nature, and have the most colonies surrounding their planet of any other species (24 on their terraformed moon). Most businesses require Jorons to take a mandatory paid vacation to maintain mental health. Some companies will take advantage of this and plan a company retreat with all the employees, while others prefer to stagger these absences throughout the financial year. Some companies even rotate their Joron employees through their different locations to satisfy employee needs. Sometimes a simple change in routine is all that is needed (example: Jibella , a Joron who works for Handler Network Enterprises changes her routine by rotating through different apartments in different neighborhood throughout the city instead of moving to an entirely different colony. She also rotates her sleep schedule and specific duties in order to provide enough change to satisfy her biological needs). Each Joron is different though, and some made need more change than others.
Jorons have extremely dense and dexterous biology that many scientists believe is a result of their nocturnal nature which requires them to be active during very cold, almost freezing temperatures. Their tall, but very thin appearance makes them one of the more underestimated species physically. In truth they are very adept hunters and physical artisans, never shying away from physical labor. They make for excellent marshals in the Bronze Stars.
Jorons specialize in an artistic movement known as “Left Art”, in which during their nomadic travels, they leave signs of their presence in the landscape or particular objects. Jorons tend to not carry many items and in most cases usually only hold onto tools or weapons. Jorons believe in the ideal of not being afraid to show that you’ve lived- though many conservationists abhor it, Jorons almost religiously believe in artistically marking places either to show the impact of life on an environment or to witness the impact of an environment on life. On their homeworld of Vellos, verses, narrative stories, visual depictions of life and beauty can be found scribed, carved, and molded into everything. Jorons never sign their work, feeling that it is more important to convey art and make a connection than it is to take credit, this frustrates Dozoran archaeologists who try to compile and document some of the existing works to no end. Some Joron families keep oral histories and records of works made by their family, often taking the same nomadic route (which tend to take a span of half a lifetime to complete), that can then lead to the older works being overridden by the new (another frustration to Dozoran documentation). Some Jorons go so far as to do impermanent Left Art, which is usually done in sand or with rocks- anything that can easily be disturbed and destroyed by nature or anyone passing through after them.
