History:

Garnet was originally built as courier and then during Cardassian war it was reconfigured to serve as frigate. However despite been very good as an courier ship, it was shown to be not so good in combat situations. Around thirty of this ships were built, six lost during the Cardassian war. These ships were later used as fast transports, couriers and survey ships. However with Dominion war and heavy losses by the Dominion once again this ships were pressed in service as combat ships. From remaining twenty four ships, eleven manage to survive the war.

Unlike Ambassador or any other more capable ship of its time, Garnets were scheduled for retirement starting with 2391.
