Description
The Balao-Class was launched in the mid 2220's and by 2249, the ship was condisered "old", but good enough to remain in service in comparable to ther ships of the fleet. She primarly serves as a logistical support crusier, carring Starfleet personnel and cargo between Federation member worlds, outposts and Starbases.

By 2260, the U.S.S. Stingray (NCC-1126) was considered as a laughingstock among the rest of Starfleet, having been crewed desribed by the former Captain as "the worst, and barly functioning memebrs of Starfleet from hell". Later in the same year, Commaner Thomas Dodge was given command of the Singray for a series of War Games, after being past over for a third time for command of a starship for his unothadox methods by the Admiraly. Admiral Fitzpatrick offer Dodge his promotion if he won. His mission was to "invade" Drozana Station, and if successful, to destoy a dummy warship mored at K-7 with two live photon torpedoes. The opposing vessels where the Constitutin-Class, U.S.S. Lexington under the command of Captain Robert Wesly and the Radient-Class, U.S.S. Stargazer under the command of Captain Krasnovsky.
Commander Dodge was able to evade detection of the Stargazer and transport over a nearly inebriated security team over to Dorzana Stattion, completing the first of the war games scenario. As a result, Rear Admiral Johnathan Styles, Sr. reduces the size of the engagement area to a third of the original plans - with out Admiral Fitzpatrisk's authorization. In a desperate attempt to stop Dodge as the Stingray was rigged for a silent running and dropped it's transponder, Admiral Styles assumed command of the Lexington. Dodge employs an incredibly dangerous maneuver: passing Stingray between two radioactive waste transports to avoid detection by the Lexington or Station K-7. By the time the Lexington detects and in a simulated attack "destoys" the Stingray, Commander Dodge fired on the dumby ship destoying it compeltly - winning the war game.
After Dodge's crew returns to port, Read Admiral Styles is chastized by Admiral Fitzpatrik and repotes him to the Sector's Judge Advocate for disaplinary action. He then congratulates Dodge, informing him that he will now be given command of a new Pioneer-Class wita an appropriate crew. Dodge respectfully requests that his entire Stingray crew be transferred with him, to which Fitzpatrik agrees to. After Dodge dismisses his crew to begin a well-earned shore leave, the Stingray's Science Officer, Lt. T'Nara asks him about a certin tatoo and body piercing he got on one of the Orion colonies during the Klingon-Federation War.
