A boy had a dream in the middle of the night
That he was a girl in a dress of white.
Bread was given by those who remained around
Yet more food and shelter still needed to be found.
Overhead birds flew to a safer location.
Even they were aware of the grim situation.
Neighborhood homes had been torn apart
From fighting by those who thought they were smart.
The boy awoke with a startled cry.
Out the window, he found a much calmer sky.
Child though he was, the dream made clear
He could give hope to others in the time he was here.
Dream though it was, such things were real.
A connection to her he was able to feel.
The boy hoped to give her a sense of relief
Yet he seemed only able to share in her grief.
What does gender and clothing even mean,
If hope for the future can not even be seen?
People like this can be found every day.
Sometimes such people can even come our way.
No easy answers exist for the problems involved.
All must take part before such problems can be solved.
