Description I am glad that this tutorial has helped everyone create some cute pixel works! As of April 2018 I will be disabling comments on this post as I am not able to give tutorials beyond what is provided. This tutorial is now out of date to the current software of GIMP but a lot of the same general rules still reply. Please check below for an updated tutorial.

Saving as animation is different on the new version so please use it if you get stuck! YOU NO LONGER HAVE TO PUT THE WORD (LAYER #)(REPLACE) IN YOUR LAYER NAME! JUST MAKE SURE THAT THEY LAYERS ARE IN THE ORDER THAT YOU WANT THEM TO ANIMATE INT!!

What if we don't have GIMP? Will it work on Microsoft Paint or Photoshop?

It will definitely work on photoshop, there are many tutorials on here for photochop pixel animation, even more than GIMP tutorials I'm pretty sure paint won't work though:/

GIMP doesn't cause viruses, does it? my laptop's been having probs but i didn't download it yet.

well it depends how big the eyes are and how often you want them to blink(: to make them blink you should do one layer with the eyes open and then the next with them shut (or in the process of shutting if you want it to be slower) and then open the next(: then for a moving tail just do another layer with the tail moving slightly in the direction you want it, then the next layer move it in that direction slightly more and so on until you have it moved how you want it(: hope I helped!

I'm not 100% sure because I don't know much about other programs, but you should be able to, if you save the images as a GIF file if you're trying to animate? or if you are planning on making individual images (like each section of a GIF) and then doing the actual aimation in GIMP you should save each as PNG I think. Hope you got all that xD sorry if it doesn't make much sense (: <3
