Time can be a real bitch! I decided to learn UVs "fast" today - planned around 1 hour, but ended up takeing 3.

the whore lives up to its name! but I'm not surprised by your remark, UVs can take a lot of time.

Oh yeah, noticed that! - But I guess I got this going for me now - I at least understood the theory, now I just need practice!

Guidifier In reply to ExplodedPineapple [2014-11-11 18:56:39 +0000 UTC]
how much practice did you have during your absence?
π: 0 β©: 1
ExplodedPineapple In reply to Guidifier [2014-11-11 19:05:08 +0000 UTC]
Quite a bit. I m practicing quite a few things at the same time: Some 2d some 3d - And it starts getting time-consumeing! Now I have to focus on the next test in a few weeks!

Guidifier In reply to ExplodedPineapple [2014-11-11 19:29:48 +0000 UTC]
which subject if I may inquire?
π: 0 β©: 1
ExplodedPineapple In reply to Guidifier [2014-11-11 19:43:55 +0000 UTC]
Mostly about Maya and Photoshop. Also some project-management. We don t have real subjects, we have "modules" - What can contain a bunch of topics.
π: 0 β©: 1
ExplodedPineapple In reply to Guidifier [2014-11-11 20:12:40 +0000 UTC]
Hm, depends I guess. I m pretty good at all the topics - nothing re-reding my notes wont fix at least. I think I m good^^! - But should I have a question, I will ask you!

Guidifier In reply to ExplodedPineapple [2014-11-11 20:51:27 +0000 UTC]
I doubt I'd be able to offer much help in those fields. perhaps I should have asked, is there anything I can help you with?

Hm, what I wondered for quite a while: What is considered low-poly? And what high-poly? So, in matter of Tris I mean. You got me a good answer to this?
π: 0 β©: 1
Guidifier In reply to ExplodedPineapple [2014-11-11 21:09:53 +0000 UTC]
I believe it depends on the technological advances of the moment. resident evil characters are considered low poly now, high poly back in the 90's.

ExplodedPineapple In reply to Guidifier [2014-11-11 21:18:25 +0000 UTC]
Yeah, I guess so! Can you give me some examples for today s standarts?
π: 0 β©: 1
Guidifier In reply to ExplodedPineapple [2014-11-12 14:58:59 +0000 UTC]
800 thousand, a million polys and higher are definitely considered high poly. resident evil characters are considered low poly.

ExplodedPineapple In reply to Guidifier [2014-11-15 18:30:11 +0000 UTC]
Hm, and this still runs smoothly on consoles?
π: 0 β©: 1
Guidifier In reply to ExplodedPineapple [2014-11-16 10:21:10 +0000 UTC]
not if you don't have a powerful console. our models had less than half the polys i described.
π: 0 β©: 1
ExplodedPineapple In reply to Guidifier [2014-11-16 18:09:50 +0000 UTC]
Hey, how about 12fps? - According to Ubisoft, that s twice as cinematic!
π: 0 β©: 1
Guidifier In reply to ExplodedPineapple [2014-11-16 18:41:49 +0000 UTC]
I'm not certain of the outcome, we worked with Unity3d, and it did not run nearly as smoothly with high poly models.
π: 0 β©: 1
ExplodedPineapple In reply to Guidifier [2014-11-16 19:38:44 +0000 UTC]
Hm, our first project will be made with Unity as well. (it s a lowpoly-project anyway, so no worries about this!) - But later we will also work with Cryengine and Unreal Engine.

Guidifier In reply to ExplodedPineapple [2014-11-17 05:21:23 +0000 UTC]
oh good, so you need not worry about environment design eh?
π: 0 β©: 1
ExplodedPineapple In reply to Guidifier [2014-11-17 08:43:40 +0000 UTC]
Oh, I wouldn t be to sure about that one! We will also get lessons in environment-design - And I bet they wont teach us this for nothing!
π: 0 β©: 1
Guidifier In reply to ExplodedPineapple [2014-11-18 09:10:36 +0000 UTC]
environmental design with Unity3d is simple, and easy. it is doubtful that you'd encounter any real problems.

I hope so! I organized a meeting today so we finally get a complete Asset-list! - Also invited the coding-guys. It went pretty good I guess.

Guidifier In reply to ExplodedPineapple [2014-11-19 04:59:06 +0000 UTC]
a meeting with coders went without trouble? something's not right.
π: 0 β©: 1
ExplodedPineapple In reply to Guidifier [2014-11-19 20:08:22 +0000 UTC]
Hahaha! You have to know that noone here actually knows what they re doing! I have 5 years of work-experience and that s also why I m now the project-leader. They just don t dare to challenge someone who has experience with this kind of situations!
π: 0 β©: 1
Guidifier In reply to ExplodedPineapple [2014-11-20 19:26:13 +0000 UTC]
perhaps it's their first time then, coders are not the most compliant of people.
π: 0 β©: 1
ExplodedPineapple In reply to Guidifier [2014-11-20 20:25:36 +0000 UTC]
Not just perhaps I guess!
But I guess it had to do with my way of organizing things: I know a bit about codeing and what to watch out for, so I could stop my team before our two coders got crushed by the amount of ridiculous requests thrown their way.

Layers are awesome ! One feature that makes life easier^^!
Thank you ! I guess the dragon took me around 4 hours to paint. But only because most of the time I just sat there thinking "How am I supposed to draw this detail?!" XD

π: 0 β©: 1
ExplodedPineapple In reply to BigMaleforFan [2014-11-04 18:18:38 +0000 UTC]
Under the close-X, on the upper right corner there is a little drop-down-menu that offers you a few preset PS-layouts. I set it to painting! - That way, you get colors and Brushes to be more visible and easy to pick!

ExplodedPineapple In reply to BigMaleforFan [2014-11-04 20:01:22 +0000 UTC]
Exactly^^! And there are at least 20 possibilities to get something done with the same result! It s thrilling XD !

well true , but at least the results are appealing , unlike math !!! the results will be a two line long formula !!!
